Stronger Every Time I Die
The whole box was filled with one thing: red. Nothing but bright, festive red fabric. After handing over the clothes, Drake left with a grin. The older couple watched him walk away, smiling fondly. “It’s been ages since we’ve seen Mr. Drake so happy,” the old woman said. “Last time I saw him smile like that… was when he saw that girl,” the old man added. “That girl?” Arthur caught the keyword. “I heard Mr. Drake never married… was it because of her?” Ashley perked up immediately at the mention of gossip. The old woman nodded. “That’s right. Back then, they were perfect together. Everyone thought they’d end up together. But in the end, the girl didn’t choose our Mr. Drake.” She sighed, clearly still feeling sorry about it. “If she’d married him, she’d have lived a wonderful life. He loved her so much…” Ashley leaned in, curious. “He loved her that much? And she still didn’t choose him? What kind of girl was she?” The old woman shook her head with a look of pity. “She was the boss’s daughter—Kelly.” “If only she’d picked Mr. Drake instead of that Solivair. She wouldn’t have died so young. Drake was a hundred times better than Solivair ever was!” “Solivair never deserved someone like Kelly. It’s a shame… none of us even knew she was the boss’s daughter until much later.” The old couple kept chatting away, but Arthur and Ashley had gone completely still. They were stone cold. They’d just gone from casually eavesdropping on gossip to realizing… they were the subjects. Drake’s former crush—was Arthur’s aunt, Kelly. And now it made perfect sense to Arthur why Drake had treated him differently from the start. He’d seen Kelly’s photos before. He and his aunt shared several features.Nina looked like Kelly too, which was why she and Arthur resembled each other. Small world, Arthur thought. Ridiculously small. And somehow, they always ended up bumping into their own relatives without knowing it. Come to think of it… Solivair was technically his uncle. What kind of twisted family tree is this?! Remembering all his past run-ins with Solivair… Arthur couldn’t help but wonder—If Solivair had known he was Kelly’s nephew, would he have regretted everything he’d done? The old woman nudged them gently toward the house. “Go on, go get changed into your outfits! Today’s your big day—gotta look festive!” Their smiles were genuine. They were truly happy for Arthur and Benjamin. Benjamin had led them through hell and carved out a place for them on this island. They were grateful to him with all their hearts, and they sincerely wished for him to enjoy the rest of his life in peace. Arthur smiled, nodded, and thanked them, then returned inside with Ashley. Once the door closed, Arthur opened the box Drake had handed him. Inside was a red suit for him, and a red dress for Ashley—custom-made to fit their exact measurements. There was a tailor on the island so skilled that he could size someone up with a single glance. Arthur chuckled. “Wearing something this festive… people might think we’re getting married.” But after saying that, he noticed something strange. No response. He turned around, puzzled. “Ashley?” No sign of her. A flicker of panic surged through him. He quickly looked around. “Ashley? Where are you?”Her voice floated over from behind the folding screen. “I’m changing—don’t come over!” Arthur let out a breath of relief. He was being too jumpy. Probably just nerves. He started walking toward the screen, teasing as he went, “What haven’t I seen before? Nothing to be shy about.” He just wanted to see her—just to make sure everything was okay. But Ashley stopped him with a shout. “Don’t come over! I’ll be done soon.” Her face was flushed red. Arthur was always saying these shameless things, and every time he did, she couldn’t help but blush. She wanted to be fully dressed before he saw her. Wearing this bright red outfit, she really did feel like a bride. She couldn’t help but feel a tiny thrill of excitement… and quiet anticipation. One day, when we really do get married… I want to wear something just like this. Seeing that she was serious, Arthur gave in. While she changed, he quickly got dressed as well. He didn’t want to keep her waiting too long.
