Chapter 484 The Forest's Hidden Dangers

The forest was devoid of paths, and after a full day of trekking, the group still hadn't seen a single person or any signs of habitation. No clues or traces had appeared. As the sky darkened, Ashley looked worried and asked, "Are we really going to spend the night in the forest?" After a full day of walking, they were now deep inside the forest, far from its edge. It was impossible to make it out before dark. Fortunately, they had brought lighting equipment with them. But spending the night in the forest was an extremely dangerous proposition. Unless absolutely necessary, they all hoped to avoid staying in the forest. The group looked to Arthur. He gazed into the endless expanse of the forest, his thoughts a tangle. When he first received John's information, he thought this was just an ordinary small forest. After all, according to what John had said, there were clues here related to his grandfather. But upon arrival, Arthur realized just how primitive the place was. This vast, endless forest, filled with venomous insects and wild beasts, was much more treacherous than he had anticipated. If his grandfather truly lived here or had left behind some clue here, how had he survived in such a dangerous place? Before coming, Arthur had not been too worried, but now, the further they ventured, the more his concern grew. If they turned back now, they would have to retrace their steps tomorrow, which would mean covering the same distance again. After thinking for a moment, Arthur made a firm decision. "We'll find a safe spot and camp for the night." Ashley understood Arthur's concerns. She nodded in agreement. The group continued their journey, but the sky continued to darken. They were getting more and more anxious. There was not even a cave nearby where they could take shelter. Suddenly, Ashley spotted a dark opening from far. Her eyes lit up. "Look! Is that a cave over there?"The others quickly looked at the direction she pointed. "Yes! That's definitely a cave!" It was small, but it is a cave, for sure. Once they confirmed it, everyone breathed a sigh of relief. As long as the cave was not inhabited by wild animals, they would have a place to rest for the night. Not wasting another moment, they hurried towards the cave. Just as they were almost there, a sudden sound reached their ears. It was a deep, distant growl. The group immediately froze in place. The leader of the group listened intently for a moment, his face growing serious. "Mr. Gray, it's wolves!" One of the professional subordinates added, "And from the sound of it, it's a pack!" Arthur and Ashley both stiffened. In the wild, the last thing you wanted to encounter was a pack of wolves. Wolves were fiercely united and held grudges, making them especially dangerous. Once engaged, it would be a fight to the death. The leader quickly scanned the surroundings and pointed toward a direction. "The sound is coming from that way!" The direction he pointed to was none other than the path they had entered the forest from. The group collectively gasped in horror. They had just been debating whether to turn back and retrace their steps. And now, it seemed a pack of wolves was approaching from that exact direction. If they had turned back earlier, they would have run straight into the wolves! Without hesitation, Arthur made his decision. "Quick! We're running for the cave!" Almost as soon as he spoke, Arthur and Ashley led the group in a mad dash toward the cave. The group was well-prepared, dressed in efficient clothing, and none were weaklings. They sprinted quickly. While the wolves were still some distance away, they might just make it to the cave in time. They had no intention of facing the pack if they could avoid it.As they got closer, they used binoculars to get a better look at the cave. The entrance was small, but the interior seemed spacious enough to fit the whole group. Most importantly, no wild animals were visible inside! The bodyguards had carefully used binoculars to check the ground and entrance of the cave, finding no signs of animal droppings. This confirmed that the cave was likely not inhabited by beasts. The group ran faster, the sound of the wolves' growls growing louder with each passing second. After running for a while, Ashley was starting to tire. Arthur urged, "Hurry! Faster!" Ashley knew the urgency of the situation and pushed herself harder, ignoring the pain in her feet as she increased her speed. The path through the forest was not easy, and they were running through dense underbrush. Thankfully, they had not encountered any snakes along the way. With the bodyguards leading the way, it was easier for Arthur and Ashley to keep up. But even with their speed, how could they outrun wolves?
