Stronger Every Time I Die

Chapter 481 The Mother of Stephen and Maris

At the very least, Zac wanted to make sure their days could be a little more comfortable. Seeing that Zane was still hesitant, Zac added softly, "I just want to see them… to know if they're doing well." His voice carried a rare hint of pleading. "Dad, I've been raised by the Gray family since I was a child. They've treated me so well... I owe them far too much. After today, I don't know when I'll be able to return to Seacity again. Before I leave, I just want to see them one last time." Hearing this, Zane sighed and replied after some thought, "Zac, it's not that I don't want you to see them. I know... you didn't grow up by my side. If it weren't for them, you wouldn't have made it this far. I'm deeply grateful to them. But you know my situation. My identity is sensitive. If anyone finds out I have an illegitimate son, it'll cause unimaginable trouble for my political future." Before he could finish, Zac hurriedly raised his hand like he was taking an oath. "Dad, don't worry! I'll be careful. I'll cover myself up. I won't let anyone see my face!" But when he heard the words 'illegitimate son' come out of Zane's mouth, a sharp pain pierced through Zac's heart. He knew this was a fact he could never change. He was not the kind of person to throw childish tantrums. After all he had been through, his heart had long since transformed, hardened. At the very least, the petty tricks he used to pull, like fainting at every turn, were things he no longer had any desire to use. Seeing how sincere Zac was, Zane hesitated for a long moment and finally, reluctantly agreed. Zac's eyes lit up with genuine joy, and he said respectfully, "Thank you, Dad!" In front of the Yarbrough Residence, as soon as Zane's car pulled up, Zac could not wait to step out. At this moment, he was fully covered. A black mask over his face, a cap pulled low over his head, like hiding himself from the world. Hearing the sound of the car, Zoey and the others had already come out to greet them. The second Zac stepped out, his eyes fell on Zoey. She had been waiting so expectantly. She was dressed with elegance and luxury. Her gown was clearly a custom-made piece worth a fortune. Around her neck and wrists were sparkling gemstones, each one enough to make an ordinary person gasp in awe. And then, there was his birth mother, Renee. The only thing adorning her neck was a thin gold necklace. Her clothes were outdated, the brand long past its prime. He wondered, after all these years, where had all the money he sent her gone? Just one glance at Zoey's poise and grace was enough to let Zac feel the gap between her and his mother. Heh. No wonder. No wonder Dad chose Zoey and not my mother. His mother was the daughter of a small-time businessman. Zoey, on the other hand, came from one of Seacity's most prestigious families. His mother was alluring, yes, but Zoey was a true matriarch of a noble family. Their very auras were worlds apart. Seeing Zac, Zoey hesitated before asking, "And this is...?" She knew Zane had gone to meet Zac today. But now, seeing him return with a stranger in tow, could this really be that adopted son of Raelynn... Zac? Zane nodded and introduced them, "This is Zac." Then, turning toward Zac, he gestured to Zoey, "Zac, this is Zoey, the mother of Stephen and Maris." Hearing this, Zoey gave Zane a curious glance. Normally, wouldn't he just introduce her as 'my wife'? But she quickly let it go. Perhaps Zane had mentioned Stephen and Maris to Zac earlier, which was why he introduced her this way. She did not dwell on such a trivial matter. After a brief exchange of greetings, Zac made his way straight toward the courtyard where Raelynn and the others were staying. In the courtyard, Raelynn and her family had only recently moved in and were still familiarizing themselves with their new surroundings. Looking at the sprawling estate around them, they could not help but marvel. "Compared to this place, the little courtyard we lived in before was practically a shoebox!" It was not even an exaggeration. This new courtyard was at least two or three times larger than their old one! Whether it was the garden, the rooms, or the living area. Everything here far surpassed their previous home. Not to mention, the amenities were comprehensive. There was even a private cinema and a gym! This courtyard had been built by Zane himself, specifically designed for distinguished guests. Among all the secondary courtyards in the estate, this was by far the largest and most luxurious. For Madam Xylia to allow Raelynn and her family to live here, it was clear how much deliberation and effort had gone into that decision. The furnishings were grand, and the calligraphy and paintings hanging on the walls were worth a fortune. Just looking around was enough to please the eye. Susie wandered around the courtyard, looking here and there, completely enamored with everything around her.
