Stronger Every Time I Die

Chapter 427 A Brother’s Gratitude

A private villa—just for a student? With a courtyard, no less? This was beyond extravagant. Ashley couldn’t help but sigh in admiration. "Arthur, your college life is way too good." Arthur scratched the back of his head sheepishly. When he had first seen this place, he had been just as shocked. He led Ashley inside, pushing open the door to the courtyard. The moment it swung open, a loud voice rang out. "Arthur? You’re back?" Ashley immediately recognized the name—Taylor. She had heard about him from Arthur, especially how Taylor had taken a knife for him. That alone made Ashley deeply grateful to him. Taylor bounded over to the entrance, but the moment he spotted the stunning, curvaceous girl standing beside Arthur, he froze. His eyes darted between them, and his voice stuttered. "Th-this… Arthur, you actually brought a girl to your dorm?" Taylor had never met Ashley before, and Arthur hadn’t mentioned bringing her back to campus. Not knowing the situation, Taylor didn’t dare say anything reckless—he didn’t want to ruin his friend’s fun. Arthur shot him a glare, then pulled Ashley close by the waist, his grip possessive. "This is my fiancée, Ashley," he announced proudly. It wasn’t just an introduction—it was a declaration of ownership. Ashley was stunning. Any man who laid eyes on her would be tempted, and Arthur had no intention of letting anyone get ideas. Even though Taylor was his best friend, friends were one thing—Ashley was another. He could take a bullet for a brother, but when it came to Ashley, he wasn’t taking any chances. Ashley’s face flushed again. There was someone else here, and he was holding her so close—how embarrassing. She squirmed slightly, wanting to pull away, but Arthur’s grip only tightened. There was no escaping. Taylor rolled his eyes dramatically at Arthur’s obvious display of dominance. Sure, Ashley was beautiful. But she was with Arthur. Even if I were desperate for a girlfriend, even if every woman on the planet disappeared, I still wouldn’t go after my brother’s girl. With a look of utter disdain, Taylor scoffed. "You lovesick idiot." Arthur ignored him and turned to Ashley. "This is Taylor, the one I told you about—my brother." His tone grew serious when he said brother. Ashley had already guessed his identity. She nodded politely. "Hello. Arthur has mentioned you before. You saved his life—you’re his savior." Then, before Taylor could react, Ashley bowed deeply. Her voice trembled with emotion. "Thank you so much." No words could express her gratitude. She didn’t even want to imagine what would have happened if Taylor hadn’t taken that knife. Losing Arthur… I wouldn’t be able to handle it. Arthur watched without stopping her. He felt the same way. Taylor, on the other hand, was completely thrown off. He instinctively stepped forward to help her up, but then hesitated—this was his sister-in-law. His hands froze midair, and he suddenly had no idea what to do. Flustered, he waved his hands quickly. "No, no, it’s not like that. Arthur saved my life too—he gave me a blood transfusion. I wouldn’t even be here without him." Arthur chuckled at how awkward Taylor looked. He gently patted Ashley’s back and helped her up."Alright, you’re scaring him." Ashley quickly straightened, wiping the tears from her eyes. She smiled apologetically. "I’m sorry… I just, when I think about what happened, I can’t help it." Her eyes drifted toward Arthur. Arthur smoothed her hair with a reassuring touch. "It’s okay. It’s all in the past now. I’ll be more careful from now on." Taylor stood there, speechless. One second, we’re having a normal conversation. The next, I’m drowning in their lovey-dovey nonsense. This is worse than taking that knife for Arthur. Wasn’t that enough suffering? Why do I have to suffer again? Taylor suddenly realized how ridiculous it had been to joke about Arthur wasting his time by chasing his fiancée. The real joke was him. Here I am, completely single, while Arthur and Ashley are disgustingly in love. Who’s the pathetic one now? With a dramatic eye roll, Taylor turned his back to them and waved dismissively. "Alright, alright, stop making me suffer. I just came to tell you that Cloudia Corporation and Walker Group’s network issues have been taken care of." With that, he fled before he could be fed any more nonsense. Arthur chuckled as he watched Taylor escape. He called out after him, "Thanks man."
