Stronger Every Time I Die

Chapter 426 The Wounds He Hid

It was as if Arthur had expected all of this. Ashley was certain—something had happened to him in the past few days. Otherwise, no normal person would be this calm in the face of such a crisis. Anyone else would have at least shown a bit of shock or confusion. At first, she had decided not to ask if he didn’t bring it up. But now, she could tell—this was no simple matter. It might even be a direct threat to Arthur’s safety. How could she just stand by and not know anything? She had to ask. Arthur sighed. After a brief hesitation, he finally gave in. He knew Ashley too well. If he refused to tell her, she would only worry more. Besides, if she understood what was happening, she could at least be more cautious. So, he gave her a brief explanation of what had happened over the past few days. Of course, he deliberately glossed over the more dangerous parts, making everything sound much less serious than it really was. But even so, Ashley still felt like her heart was about to stop. Her face turned pale as she listened. She couldn’t even imagine what Arthur had gone through. Just the thought of it made her chest tighten. Without warning, she threw her arms around him, holding him so tightly that Arthur almost lost his breath. Then, as if realizing her strength, she quickly pulled back and started tugging at his clothes, checking his body. "Are you hurt? Let me see!" The last time she had tried, Arthur had avoided her. And then, thanks to his endless distractions, she had been too flustered to insist. But now, after hearing everything he had been through, how could she hold back? How could she care about being embarrassed at a time like this! Arthur quickly turned away, pulling his shirt back down. "There’s nothing to see! We barely even fought. I just got a few scratches—they’re already healed." But the more he avoided her, the more worried she became. Ashley’s eyes started to redden. "You’re hurt, and you won’t even let me see? Do you want me to die of worry!" Arthur froze. He had no idea what to do when she looked at him like that. "It’s not that," he said quickly. "I just didn’t want you to worry. It’s really nothing." But the more he explained, the more anxious Ashley became. In the end, Arthur had no choice but to give in. When Ashley finally saw the wounds on his body, she was completely stunned. "How… How are there this many?!" Tears welled up in her wide eyes and started falling. No wonder Arthur had kept turning off the lights these past two days whenever they got close. So this was why. His body was covered in wounds—some healed, some still scabbing over. Two whole days, and he hadn’t said a word. He had still done so much, still acted like nothing was wrong. Did he not care if his wounds reopened?! Ashley was so heartbroken she didn’t even know what to say. Arthur couldn’t stand seeing her cry. He immediately pulled her into his arms. "I’m fine. I’m a grown man—this is nothing. I’ve already healed."Ashley felt like her heart was being squeezed. All the scolding words she had prepared melted into just one trembling question. "Does it hurt?" Her voice was shaking. She didn’t even dare to touch his wounds. Arthur answered immediately. "No. Not at all. I’ve been fine for days." Together, they called Mr. Devon and explained the situation. Arthur wanted to take Ashley to Lioran University with him for now, and Mr. Devon readily agreed. He even arranged for Ashley to have academic tasks to complete while she was there, under the pretense of an "exchange program." That way, she wouldn’t fall behind in her studies. Both Arthur and Ashley were grateful beyond words. Arthur’s driver was already waiting for them at the hotel entrance. After quickly packing some clothes from her dorm, Ashley officially set off for Lioran University with Arthur. She had always been curious about where Arthur studied. Now, she was finally going to see it for herself. The car sped down the highway. Thankfully, nothing unusual happened along the way. With Mr. Devon’s prior arrangements, Ashley’s entry into Lioran University went smoothly. But when Arthur finally brought her to his "dorm," she stood frozen in shock. She had heard Arthur mention before that he had a private place to stay. But she never imagined— Arthur’s so-called "private housing" was an entire villa. It wasn’t massive, but it had its own courtyard, completely separate from any other buildings. This was Evergrand City, one of the most expensive places in the world and he had an entire house!
