Stronger Every Time I Die
Solivair pressed his lips together but made no move to stop them. His expression remained calm, unreadable. The SWAT officers moved swiftly, sweeping through the warehouse. But it didn’t take long before they returned. “Report—no suspicious findings.” “Report—no suspicious findings.” One by one, the officers exited, each delivering the same response. The lead officer cast Solivair a long, searching look. Then, without another word, he signaled for his team to withdraw. Arthur and Hugo paced anxiously outside the emergency room. The doors swung open. A doctor stepped out, wiping sweat from his forehead. Arthur and Hugo rushed forward, their voices tight with urgency. “Doctor, how is Taylor?” The doctor let out a slow breath. “Severe blood loss. The knife was dangerously close to his heart and punctured a major artery. We’re currently stabilizing him with a blood transfusion and discussing the best approach for surgery.” He turned to leave, but Arthur grabbed his sleeve. “Doctor, what are his chances?” Arthur’s voice trembled. He couldn’t bear the thought. If Taylor died— No, Taylor was here because of him. He had taken that knife for him. Arthur owed him his life. The doctor hesitated. Then, shaking his head grimly, he said, “It’s too early to tell. The real danger is removing the knife. If we pull it out the wrong way, the artery could burst, and we might not be able to stop the bleeding.” With that, he hurried back inside. Arthur’s knees buckled. He sank to the floor, his mind replaying the moment again and again. “This is my fault… I did this to him…” If he hadn’t turned away from the flashlight’s glare— If he had kept his eyes open, Taylor wouldn’t have stepped in front of him. Now that he thought about it, it had to be deliberate. Solivair’s men had blinded them on purpose, waiting for that exact moment to strike. Hugo sighed. Arthur and Taylor were both his students. Arthur—he had high hopes for him. But Taylor… After so long, Hugo had come to see him as his own child. Placing a firm hand on Arthur’s shoulder, Hugo said, “Taylor is strong. He’ll make it.” It was as much for Arthur as it was for himself. The hallway was eerily empty. Arthur suddenly looked up. “Professor, who exactly is the Tremo family? Solivair carried a gun—he killed Kent and Dean!” He expected Hugo to be shocked. But Hugo’s face didn’t show the slightest surprise. Instead, he narrowed his eyes, sighing heavily. “Arthur, don’t ask too many questions. Knowing too much won’t do you any good.” Then, after a pause, he added, “Stay far away from Solivair. He’s dangerous.” Arthur was stunned.“There were bodies in that warehouse. He was carrying a gun. He won’t be arrested?” Murder should mean prison. But Hugo’s words suggested otherwise. Hugo only shook his head. “Solivair… He’s good at this. We never find anything. By the time we search, the bodies are gone. Even the guns disappear without a trace.” Silence settled between them. Arthur’s world was unraveling. This wasn’t supposed to happen. How could a man kill so openly and still walk free? This was a time of peace. And yet, Solivair acted as if the law didn’t apply to him. It wasn’t just about wealth. Even as a businessman, this level of control—this blatant immunity—was impossible. Which meant someone even more powerful was backing him. Arthur was still piecing it together when the doctor returned. He shoved his thoughts aside and leapt to his feet. “How is he?” The doctor wasted no time. “He’s losing blood too fast—worse than we expected. And…” He hesitated before continuing. “His blood type. We just used most of our supply in the past few days. The reserves are too low.” Arthur’s heart pounded. “Then order more!” Hugo snapped. “We already have,” the doctor replied. “But the nearest available supply is far from here. We don’t have time to wait.”Arthur’s body moved before he even thought. “Use my blood. I’ll donate.” Hugo immediately followed. “I’m old, but I’ve still got enough in me to save a kid.” Before the doctor could respond, two figures rushed in from the hallway. Cold Frost and Sage.
