Stronger Every Time I Die

Chapter 395 The Standoff

Almost the moment the car screeched to a stop, the door swung open. A figure—old but still strong—stepped out swiftly. Behind him, several police cars arrived in quick succession. The moment they stopped, a large team of SWAT officers poured out, guns raised—aimed directly at Solivair. The second Solivair saw the flashing lights, his hand subtly moved behind his back, signaling the guards still inside the warehouse. Arthur’s gaze flicked to the man stepping out of the lead car. It was Hugo. The moment Hugo got out, his sharp eyes scanned the crowd, locking onto Arthur. Then, his gaze shifted. He saw Taylor lying limp on the stretcher. His eyes narrowed dangerously. “Hugo!” he bellowed. “What the hell is going on here?” Solivair’s expression remained unreadable, but something flickered in his eyes. By now, the SWAT team had completely surrounded him and his guards. The lead officer called out across the distance. “We received a report of an armed kidnapping! Mr. Solivair, do you deny these claims?” The question was formal, but the SWAT officers weren’t lowering their weapons. Their fingers hovered over the triggers—ready for combat at any moment. Solivair’s cold gaze swept over the surrounding officers. Then, after a long pause, a slow smile crept onto his face. “Misunderstanding,” he said lightly, raising his hands in a show of compliance. “A complete misunderstanding. We were simply having a discussion here. There’s no kidnapping—only law-abiding citizens talking business.”The officer didn’t react. His eyes flicked toward Taylor. “Then what happened to the man on the stretcher?” he asked, voice cold. Solivair’s smile didn’t waver. “Oh, this young man? Unfortunate accident. He took a nasty fall and, well… ended up with a knife in his back. We were just about to take him to the hospital.” A frigid silence fell over the scene. Hugo was the first to break it. “The man on that stretcher, as well as the boy standing there, are my students,” Hugo said firmly. “Mr. Solivair, hand them over to me.” He gestured toward Arthur, still surrounded by bodyguards. Solivair’s fists clenched. His gaze locked onto Hugo, dark and unreadable. For a long moment, neither man spoke. Then, finally— Solivair’s fingers loosened. That same, smooth smile returned. “Of course,” he said. “Be my guest.” A subtle flick of his fingers, and his guards stepped aside. Arthur and Hugo both exhaled quietly. Reluctantly, the bodyguards made way, clearing a path for Arthur. Without wasting a second, Arthur rushed toward Taylor. At the same time, several SWAT officers moved forward, taking the stretcher from Solivair’s men. Arthur’s voice was sharp. “Hurry! Get him to the nearest hospital—he’s lost too much blood!”The officers moved fast, securing Taylor onto the vehicle. Hugo shot Solivair a long, meaningful look before climbing into the car. Arthur didn’t hesitate. He followed. The doors slammed shut, and the police vehicle roared away, carrying them from the scene. The remaining SWAT officers stayed behind, their guns still locked onto Solivair and his men. Solivair watched the departing vehicle, his expression unreadable. Lynn. No one—aside from his most trusted people—knew she existed. Even within the Tremo family, her name had never been spoken. And after she disappeared, he had searched for her in complete secrecy. So how the hell did Arthur know? How did he even know that Lynn was missing? Was he involved in her disappearance? No. Solivair had investigated Arthur before. From birth until now, he had never left South City, except to attend university. He had kept Lynn too well hidden. There was no way Arthur could have met her. And if Arthur had any kind of secret power or influence, he wouldn’t have been pushed around by the Gray family’s adopted son. No matter how he looked at it, it didn’t make sense. Damn that Hugo. He had swooped in and taken Arthur right out of his hands. Solivair’s eyes narrowed dangerously. Before he could dwell on it further, the lead SWAT officer stepped forward, interrupting his thoughts. “Mr. Solivair,” he said. “We received reports of an armed kidnapping. We will now conduct a full search of this warehouse.” Without waiting for a response, he signaled his team forward. A group of officers immediately rushed into the warehouse.
