Chapter 332 Taylor’s Smirk of Doom

Finley followed the injured students to the infirmary, while Everest led Taylor and Arthur back to his office. Inside the office, Everest sat in his chair, staring at the two of them with a stern expression. "Taylor, is this Arthur?" Arthur nodded, his demeanor calm and unwavering. "I am." Everest glanced at him, frowning. "Arthur, you just arrived at Governance University, and you’re already getting into fights? Do you realize your mistake?" Arthur remained composed, meeting Everest’s gaze directly. "I’m not sure what mistake you’re referring to, Mr. Everest." "You—!" Everest was momentarily stunned. He hadn't expected Arthur to be this defiant, even in this situation! Before Everest could continue, Taylor rolled his eyes and interjected, "Mr. Everest, didn’t we just explain? Those guys came up to us out of nowhere, provoking us and trying to pick a fight. Fortunately, my junior here is more than capable, or else we would’ve been the ones in trouble." Then, with a pointed look at Everest, he added, "Mr. Everest, if you’re this quick to jump to conclusions based only on what you see, how do you expect to ever get promoted?" That comment hit Everest where it hurt. "Taylor!" he snapped, his face turning red. Promotion—his biggest sore spot. He dreamed of moving up, but he could never seem to pass the evaluations. Frustrated, Everest jabbed a finger toward Taylor and Arthur. "I saw it with my own eyes! You two were fighting on school grounds, and you left four people injured! Bleeding! And now you dare act like you’ve done nothing wrong? You’re even being disrespectful to me! Do you really think that just because you’re Mr. Hugo’s students, I can’t do anything to you?" Just as Everest finished his rant, an annoyed voice sounded from the doorway. "What’s going on here?" Everest turned around and was immediately filled with relief—it was the principal. His eyes lit up as he quickly stood from his chair. "Mr. Mateo, these two were caught fighting on campus! They injured four students—some of them are still in the infirmary being treated!" He shot another harsh glare at Arthur and Taylor. "I brought them here, but they refuse to admit their mistake! They have no respect for their teachers!" Not many people knew that Taylor was responsible for the school’s cybersecurity. As a newly hired junior professor, Everest certainly didn’t. Like many others, Everest looked down on Taylor. Hugo was a highly respected figure, and the students he took under his wing were usually among the best of the best. But Arthur? Everest didn’t know much about Arthur yet, but Taylor was already a sophomore, and aside from his computer skills, he was utterly mediocre. How could someone like that become Hugo’s student? There are so many students in the school who are far more outstanding, even Finley hasn’t been chosen by Hugo. So why Taylor? And then there was Arthur. From the little information Everest had, he hadn’t seen anything that suggested Arthur was superior to Finley. The principal of Governance University was known for being fair and just. And as for Hugo? Everest knew that Hugo never interfered in these kinds of school matters. He wasn’t worried that Hugo would step in to shield them. A smug smirk unknowingly crept onto Everest’s face. They actually had the nerve to talk back to me, to challenge my authority? Now Mateo is here, let’s see if they could keep up their arrogance! He had expected the principal to stand by his side and back him up. But to his surprise, Mateo didn’t even look at him. Instead, Mateo turned to Taylor, a warm smile appearing on his face. Softening his tone, he asked, "Taylor, is this your junior, Arthur?" Taylor’s attitude shifted slightly upon seeing the principal. He nodded. "Yes." Turning to Arthur, he introduced him. "Arthur, this is Mr. Mateo." Arthur nodded respectfully. "Nice to meet you, Mr. Mateo." "Yes, nice to meet you! What a good kid. No wonder Mr. Hugo personally went out to bring you in—he’s got a good eye," Mateo responded enthusiastically, his smile widening. Mateo had been a principal for decades. He had seen thousands of students come and go, and his judgment was rarely wrong. Arthur’s sharp gaze and composed demeanor left a strong impression. This kid was bound for great things. Everest gawked at Mateo in disbelief. Wait… isn’t he supposed to be on my side? Why is Mr. Mateo chatting with them instead? Unable to hold back, Everest blurted out, "Mr. Mateo, they—" Hearing Everest’s voice, Mateo suddenly remembered the situation at hand. Casually sitting down in a nearby chair, he gestured toward Taylor. "Alright, tell me—what happened?" "Mr. Mateo!" Everest immediately cut in, trying to regain control of the conversation.
