Stronger Every Time I Die
Kent let out another agonized scream. Arthur glanced at the four people sprawled haphazardly on the ground. He raised his fist slightly and smirked, "So? Still want to go one-on-one?" Just a moment ago, they had been so cocky! Arthur had been itching for a fight for a while now. But now, the four of them had lost every ounce of their arrogance. They had no energy left to put up a front. Kent was the first to surrender, pleading desperately, "No, no, no! Please, stop! No more!" Before he could finish, a loud, authoritative voice suddenly cut through the air. "What the heck are you doing?" Everyone turned toward the source of the voice. It was Finley. And right behind him stood Everest, a law professor at Governance University. Ah, getting caught fighting red-handed by a teacher. Arthur suddenly felt a pang of guilt. He wasn’t just some street brawler—he was trained. He had hit them pretty hard. This wasn’t like the fights in South City or Seacity. In those places, it was just street justice. But here? This was a school. And as a student, Arthur still held a natural respect and deference toward teachers. Unlike Arthur, however, Taylor showed no signs of panic over the two men’s arrival. He had just snapped out of his state of shock. "Oh my! Arthur! You’re insane!" Taylor practically jumped in excitement. He looked at Arthur as if he had just discovered a hidden treasure, circling around him like he was inspecting a rare artifact. Being ignored like this made Everest and Finley furious. Everest might have been a new professor at Governance University, but he was still a teacher! Being disregarded by a student like this? Unacceptable! His temper flared as he bellowed, "Taylor! You two were brawling in the middle of campus? Are you trying to rebel or something?" Everest didn’t recognize Arthur, so he directed his scolding at Taylor first. As he marched forward, his eyes landed on the four students groaning on the ground, some with blood still trickling from their faces. He was livid. He immediately contacted the infirmary while glaring at Arthur. "And you!" Everest barked. "What the heck do you think you’re doing? Beating people up like this on campus? Do you have any respect for the school’s rules? Are you trying to stage a damn rebellion? As soon as Arthur was scolded, Taylor instinctively stepped in front of him, shielding him from Everest’s rage. Unhappy with the accusation, Taylor retorted, "Mr. Everest, shouldn’t you at least ask what happened before jumping to conclusions and blaming us?" Everest was so angry that he let out a short, bitter laugh. "Ask what happened?" He pointed at the students groaning on the ground. "Do I even need to? You two are standing there perfectly fine, and they’re rolling around in pain. What more is there to ask?" Finley stepped in, frowning as he spoke. "Taylor, you’ve always been arrogant, but ordering a new student to beat people up? That’s too much. We’re all classmates. Just because you’re Mr. Hugo’s student doesn’t mean you can do whatever you want!" By now, the commotion had drawn a crowd of onlookers. Hearing Finley’s words, they started whispering among themselves. "Taylor’s always been full of himself, and now he’s even getting a new student to fight for him? That’s just disgusting." "He doesn’t even respect Everest. Just because he’s Mr. Hugo’s student, he thinks he’s untouchable." "Honestly, I don’t get what Mr. Hugo saw in him. Why would he take him in as a student?" "Broke and dumb—how the heck did someone like him get such an opportunity? I’d be a better student than he is." "The other two students Mr. Hugo took in are both prodigies. And then there’s Taylor? What a joke!" "He lucked out and got a golden opportunity, but instead of making the most of it, he spends his time screwing around at school." "He used to just argue with people, but now he’s actually putting them in the hospital.""Who’s that other guy? The one fighting with Taylor? Is he just one of Taylor’s lackeys?" "I heard Mr. Hugo recruited a new student yesterday. Maybe that’s Arthur?" Verbal attacks cut deeper than a knife. Arthur listened to the baseless accusations flying through the air and took a mental note of what kind of school Governance University really was. Figures. Every place has its fair share of judgmental idiots. Frowning, Arthur spoke up. "They were the ones who came up to us looking for trouble. They threw the first punch. We were just defending ourselves. What were we supposed to do? Stand there and let them beat us up?" "Self-defense?" Everest scoffed, like he had just heard the biggest joke in the world. He pointed at the four injured students on the ground. "Do you even see what state they’re in? You call this self-defense?" As they argued, the medical team from the infirmary arrived. The four injured students were quickly taken away for treatment. But as they passed Arthur and Taylor, they all shot them venomous, hateful glares.
