Stronger Every Time I Die

Chapter 285 A Gentleman Unmatched in This World

Hearing his words, Julie's eyes lit up instantly! A place to live was exactly what they lacked the most right now! They were completely destitute. Even though Stephen had covered their medical expenses, once they left the hospital, they would face the same dire predicament. In Seacity, aside from Arthur, they had no one, no family, no friends, not a single person to turn to. Raelynn was about to decline, but Julie spoke first. "We truly are in a difficult situation. Mr. Stephen, we sincerely appreciate your generosity!" As she spoke, she bowed deeply to Stephen, expressing her heartfelt gratitude. Stephen immediately reached out to steady her and said gently, "It was nothing more than a small gesture, Ms. Julie. My home has plenty of rooms, and housing a few more people is merely a matter of setting out a few extra daily necessities." Ms. Julie. Julie couldn't remember the last time someone had addressed her that way. So much had happened recently. It was far too much. They had endured the greatest upheaval of their lives. Ms. Julie was just a title, yet to her, it was a mark of respect, a recognition of her dignity. Hearing it again, she felt a renewed sense of confidence. Raelynn parted her lips as if to speak, but after a brief hesitation, she swallowed her words. She hadn't expected him to still be in Seacity. She didn't want to go. At least not in such a disgraceful state. But if they didn't seek refuge with the Yarbrough family, they had nowhere else to turn, even finding their next meal was uncertain. Stephen was the epitome of a gentleman, considerate and thoughtful. Without hesitation, he made a call, arranging for fresh clothing and personal essentials to be delivered. Susie's injuries were severe and required surgery. While they waited, Stephen had a room prepared so they could clean up. Julie and the others were deeply moved. After expressing their gratitude once more, they hurried inside. As much as they wanted to stay by the operating room, the filth clinging to them was unbearable. They had never been this unkempt before. When they finally emerged from the room, they were dressed in clean clothes, their previous disheveled state erased. At last, no more grime. Seeing them freshened up, Stephen let out a quiet sigh of relief. Now that she was clean, Julie's delicate and elegant features became fully visible. Her composed, mature demeanor, paired with her refined beauty, exuded an undeniable charm. The Gray sisters were all strikingly beautiful, but when Julie stepped out from around the corner, Stephen found himself momentarily entranced. Seacity had no shortage of stunning women, yet even among them, Julie's grace and presence were exceptional. By the time Stephen snapped out of his daze, Julie was already standing before him. Noticing his unwavering gaze, Julie's cheeks flushed with a rosy hue. That soft blush lent her a touch of vulnerability, making her appear even more alluring. The juxtaposition of her maturity and delicate shyness created a breathtaking contrast. Stephen spoke with sincere admiration. "Ms. Julie, you are truly beautiful." Hearing his compliment, Julie's blush deepened. Raelynn, watching her daughter's expression, immediately understood what was on her mind. She sighed inwardly, lamenting the whims of fate. After all this time, their paths had crossed again. Out of nowhere, Rosie asked, "Mr. Stephen, is there any update on Susie?" Julie snapped back to reality at the question. She mentally chastised herself. What am I thinking at a time like this? Susie was still in surgery! She had no business getting distracted. Stephen, too, refocused and replied, "There's no news yet." Rosie nodded in acknowledgment and didn't press further. They had taken turns freshening up, fearing that Susie might wake and panic if she didn't see them. "Oh, right." Stephen suddenly retrieved a few small boxes and handed them to Julie. "I overheard that your phones were stolen, correct?" His eyes held a soft warmth, and his voice carried an almost magnetic pull, drawing Julie in. He opened one of the boxes and held it out to her, speaking in a gentle tone. "I had a few phones delivered. Ms. Julie, see if you like them." Julie stood frozen, staring at Stephen in disbelief. His face bore a refined, gentlemanly smile, warm and soothing like a spring breeze. His gaze carried a tenderness so comforting that, for a fleeting moment, Julie felt as if she might dissolve beneath it. A phrase surfaced in her mind. A gentleman unmatched in this world. Surely, she thought, that phrase had been written for the man standing before her.
