Stronger Every Time I Die
Stephen suddenly seemed to recall something and added, "Oh, in Seacity, knowing my dad's name is completely normal." Raelynn froze the moment she heard his confirmation. Her face turned pale, her gaze unfocused, as if she had been struck speechless. However, Julie latched onto Stephen's words. "In Seacity, knowing my dad's name is completely normal." That meant he wasn't just another wealthy young man, he was an elite heir, someone renowned in Seacity's upper echelons. After enduring a relentless string of humiliations that day, Julie's hunger for wealth reached an all-time high. She now understood, with painful clarity, the power of money. Without it, they couldn't even dream of being respected or flattered. Even the most basic necessities, food, shelter, and survival itself, became an unattainable luxury. And now, before her stood a man who was not only strikingly handsome, refined, and considerate but also unimaginably wealthy. She couldn't possibly remain indifferent. Julie quickly spoke up. "Mr. Stephen, hello, I'm Julie Gray. You can just call me Julie." As she spoke, a sudden awareness of her disheveled state crept over her. Afraid that Stephen might misinterpret her condition, she hastily added, "Oh, Mr. Stephen, I'm really sorry. We just ran into some thugs who tried to rob us, that's why we look like this." By the end of her sentence, shame surged through her, making her wish she could vanish into thin air. She suddenly remembered how, just before getting into the car, she had grabbed his hand. Her hands had been filthy, and the thought of smearing dirt on him filled her with dread. Instinctively, Julie glanced at Stephen's hands. They remained immaculately clean, smooth, and pristine, without a single trace of grime. A strange feeling flickered in her chest. Did he wipe them off? Does he find me disgusting? While Julie wrestled with her emotions, Stephen paid her no mind. His tone was calm and indifferent as he said, "Ms. Julie, you should have your wounds treated as well." Julie nodded in disappointment, allowing the nurse to lead her away for medical attention. She felt adrift, disoriented. After all these years, this was the first time she had ever felt something for a man. Yet fate had to ensure it happened when she was at her absolute lowest. There's no way he'd be interested in me when I look like this, right? The nurse worked with practiced efficiency, swiftly finishing the bandaging. By the time Julie emerged, the doctor from the emergency room had also stepped out. The group immediately rushed forward. "Doctor, how is my daughter?" Raelynn asked anxiously. The doctor, a stern-looking middle-aged man, sighed regretfully. "The patient suffered external trauma, which led to a ruptured corpus luteum. Unfortunately, because she was brought in too late, the delay may result in complications affecting her fertility." Before he could even finish speaking, a wave of dizziness swept over the group. Raelynn staggered, barely managing to stay upright. "Affect her fertility? How... how could this happen?" Her daughter was still so young. She didn't even have a boyfriend yet. She had just graduated. Her life was only beginning. A bright future lay ahead of her. If Susie found out about this, she would surely be devastated. Raelynn and Julie couldn't bear to imagine it. Stephen suddenly remarked, as if in passing, "Your last name is Gray? That means you must be Arthur Gray's mom and sisters?" Arthur. At the mere mention of that name, a blaze of fury erupted in their hearts. Arthur! It's all because of him that we're suffering this humiliation. And now, because of him, Susie's future is completely ruined. This is his fault. If not for Arthur, Gray Corporation would never have collapsed. They would still be the carefree heiresses of a powerful empire. If not for Arthur, even if they had been deceived by Zac, at least they would have continued living in luxury. They would still be the kind of women others admired and envied. If not for Arthur, they wouldn't have been forced to haul their luggage across the country to Seacity, only to be thrown out of a hotel and publicly humiliated. And now, Susie's future had been shattered because of him. Every single one of their misfortunes stemmed from Arthur. Any lingering guilt they had once felt toward him had long since been erased by these days of unrelenting disgrace. They had been utterly ruined in the eyes of the world. And it was all his doing. Raelynn was consumed with regret. She should never have given birth to Arthur. She should have strangled him the moment he entered this world. Without Arthur, none of this would have happened. As for Zac and Renee, in the wake of Raelynn's overwhelming hatred for Arthur, they had been entirely pushed from her mind. Stephen watched the storm of resentment churning in their eyes, the corners of his lips curving into a slow, knowing smile. Feigning obliviousness to their expressions, he spoke at just the right moment. "It seems like you've all run into some difficulties. If you don't mind, why don't you come to my place for a bit? Rest up and stay as long as you need."
