Stronger Every Time I Die
Ever since the events at the engagement banquet spread throughout Seacity, nearly everyone in the city had come to recognize these four heartless women. For the past few days, they had gone to Arthur’s estate every day, hoping to beg for his forgiveness. The hotel manager had initially thought that if they succeeded, they might rise with him, and he could use that opportunity to curry favor with Arthur as well. But to his surprise, day after day, they were turned away. At first, they could still afford to pay for their stay, but as of yesterday, they had run out of money. They had sworn they would get Arthur to cover their expenses today, promising to pay the overdue fees. The manager had agreed to give them time. But just moments ago, he received word that they had once again been thrown out by the security guards at Arthur’s estate! It was already afternoon. He had already asked them to pay several times, and they had ignored him every single time. What am I supposed to do? I am running a business, not a charity! Because of this, he had even been reprimanded by upper management, leaving him in an incredibly foul mood. The security guards didn’t hold back. They grabbed Raelynn and the others’ luggage and tossed it right out. Raelynn and the others had never experienced such humiliation before; they were completely terrified. Clinging to one another, Susie and Raelynn had already broken down in tears. Even when the Gray family mansion was sold, they had been able to leave on their own terms, with at least some dignity. But now, they were being thrown out like trash. Their belongings were scattered all over the ground, with clothes and personal items strewn across the pavement! Outside the hotel, the four women stared at the chaotic mess of their belongings, overwhelmed by despair. To make matters worse, more and more onlookers gathered around. They wanted to cry out loud, but they didn’t even dare to sob too openly. Never in their lives had they been this humiliated. The murmurs and judgmental stares from the crowd intensified. They wanted to abandon their things and leave immediately. But they had no money left, these belongings were everything they had. If they left everything behind, they wouldn’t even have a change of clothes! However, they couldn’t possibly wear the same outfits forever. The thought alone was unbearable. With no other choice, they swallowed their pride, crouched down, and began picking up their scattered belongings while the crowd whispered around them. Even though they had fallen from grace, they had still lived in luxury for most of their lives. Their suitcases contained quite a few expensive items. While they weren’t worth a fortune, selling them at a low price might get them enough money to rent a decent place. Julie quickly urged, "Hurry, let’s gather everything." She had spent years working as a manager at Gray Corporation, giving her more experience than the others. Raelynn, on the other hand, had married John right after graduating and had never held a formal position at Gray Corporation. Ever since they adopted Zac, she had devoted herself entirely to him, revolving her life around his every need. When Zac was at school, she spent her days figuring out what foods he liked, and what gifts would make him happy, all in the hopes of pleasing him, making John happy, and securing his attention. In reality, her life experience was even more limited than Rosie’s. Faced with this situation, she had no idea how to handle it. All she could do was cover her face and cry. Julie sighed in frustration. While collecting her own belongings, she had to help Raelynn as well. At this point, they weren’t even trying to be organized. They hurriedly stuffed their things into their suitcases in a disheveled mess. It felt like an eternity before they finally finished. By then, the number of onlookers had more than doubled. They wished they could vanish into thin air. During the commotion, their hair was disheveled, their clothes wrinkled, and their appearance was a complete mess. Dragging their luggage behind them, they hurriedly pushed through the crowd. Though the crowd murmured and pointed fingers, no one deliberately blocked their way. People stepped aside, allowing them to leave. Breathing a sigh of relief, they rushed away, eager to escape the public eye. On a secluded street, far from the judgmental gazes, they could no longer hold back. The moment they felt safe, they collapsed into loud, desperate sobs. They had been pampered their entire lives. With their beauty and status, they had always been adored, always the center of attention wherever they went. Never had they suffered such overwhelming humiliation. Not even in South City had they been this disgraced!Even Julie, the strongest among them, couldn’t stop her tears from falling. She bit her lip hard, trying to keep herself from sobbing aloud. Susie, on the other hand, had already lost all composure. With no one around, she threw her head back and wailed uncontrollably.
