Stronger Every Time I Die

Chapter 224 A Live Comedy Show

Zane figured they must have just woken up and hadn’t had the chance to check the news yet. They probably had no idea that their precious daughter Ashley’s boyfriend had cheated on her! Well, he was here to do them a favor and break the news. And to think—Arthur was actually the mysterious chairman of Cloudia Corporation! If not for this scandal, he would’ve still been in the dark! No wonder Nancy had been so confident in cutting off all business ties with the government—she must have already secured a partnership with Arthur’s Cloudia Corporation. But now that Arthur had another woman, who knew if Ashley would even be able to stay by his side? That was exactly why Zane had come today—to see if they still had the guts to uphold their decision to sever ties with the government. Would they still be willing to pay the breach-of-contract penalties? Hearing Zane’s voice, Spencer and Nancy exchanged another glance. They both coughed lightly, suppressing their laughter. If we told him we had just been joking about how he was like a dog, how would he react? Better not. They’d be kind and keep that to themselves. Noticing their expressions, Zane had a nagging feeling that their conversation hadn’t been about anything good. But that didn’t matter—because the real entertainment was about to begin! Without waiting for an invitation, Zane strolled over to the sofa and made himself comfortable, lounging leisurely. Just imagining their reaction once they learned about Arthur’s affair made it hard to suppress his smug grin. "Pour me a cup of tea, Spencer." His tone was so casual, as if he were ordering around a servant in his own home. Spencer and Nancy both raised an eyebrow. Nancy suddenly turned to Spencer. "Did this guy walk into the wrong house? Why does he act like he owns the place?" Spencer immediately caught on to her meaning. Feigning contemplation, he responded, "Not sure. Maybe there’s something wrong with his brain."They weren’t speaking quietly, and they weren’t far from Zane—every word reached his ears. His smugness evaporated, replaced by anger. With a furious slam of his palm against the table, he barked, "You two better get a grip! Given the situation, you should be begging for mercy!" Spencer cast a calm glance at the table under Zane’s hand and said indifferently, "That table cost Arthur 70 thousand dollars. That little stunt of yours just significantly shortened its lifespan. Based on depreciation costs, you owe me 40 thousand dollars." "40 thousand dollars?" Zane shot to his feet. "Why don’t you just rob me?" Unfazed, Spencer remained composed. "This table is made of cherry wood. In the future, it will be worth far more than 70 thousand dollars. Charging you 40 thousand dollars is already quite generous." Cherry wood? Zane looked down at the table and realized it really was made of cherry wood. A 70 thousand dollars tea table? The Gibson family sure knew how to live lavishly! But no matter how expensive it was, it was still just wood! A type of wood known for its hardness and density, no less! How could a simple slap affect its lifespan? What a ridiculous excuse! Realizing he had been sidetracked, Zane quickly shifted gears, dropping the table argument altogether. He had come for serious business, not to get dragged into Spencer’s nonsense. Once they saw the news, once they came begging to reinstate their contracts with the government, let’s see if they still dared to demand compensation from him! At that thought, a smirk crept onto Zane’s face. His anger dissipated as he settled back into his seat. "Arthur, huh? You sure say his name with a lot of affection." After a deliberate pause, he added with a smirk, "Why don’t you check the news? See what Arthur has been up to." Ha! Once they saw the headlines, let’s see if they could still call his name so fondly! He had expected them to immediately rush to check the news, their faces twisting in fury and panic. But neither of them moved. After all the back-and-forths in their previous encounters, Spencer saw no reason to hold back. Zane had never shown him any respect—why should Spencer show him any? Leaning back lazily, Spencer drawled, "So, you’ve been gloating all this time… just for this?" "You—!" Zane nearly lost his temper again. Forcing himself to stay calm, he reasoned that they must be putting on a front. Maybe they didn’t want to check the news in front of him, afraid of showing their distress. Hmph! I wouldn’t let them get away with it! That night at the celebration banquet, they had humiliated him. If he didn’t get his revenge today, he wouldn’t be Zane! If they didn’t want him to see their embarrassment, then he would make sure to spell it out for them!
