Stronger Every Time I Die
Zane quickly regained his smug expression. "Since you refuse to check the news and face the truth, let me do you a favor and break it to you. You have no idea, do you? Arthur, the one you speak so highly of, cheated. He’s with another woman now! You thought you’d struck gold, but guess what? He slipped right through your fingers! Zane burst into laughter, his face brimming with satisfaction, as if he were watching the best show of his life. "By now, Arthur must have already broken up with your precious daughter! Your plans have fallen apart!" Hmph, they actually thought they could escape his grasp by partnering with Cloudia Corporation? That they could even squeeze a fortune out of me? Well, now their dream is shattered! The corners of Zane’s mouth lifted so high they nearly reached the sky. His smugness was practically engraved on his face. Spencer and Nancy exchanged glances before bursting into laughter. "Hahaha!" Their laughter was unrestrained, as if they were watching a clown put on a show. Zane must have gone mad with his obsession to get revenge on them. He had actually come all the way to their house, first thing in the morning, just to see them suffer? That just proved how much that night had humiliated him—so much that he had completely lost his sense of reason. Seeing them laughing instead of getting angry—and worse, looking at him like he was an idiot—Zane’s glee froze on his face. He stared at them in disbelief. What is wrong with their brains? Do they not believe me? It took Spencer and Nancy a long while to finally stop laughing. They moved to another sofa, and the housekeeper immediately brought them two cups of fine tea. Nancy quickly took a sip to steady herself, which only made Zane even angrier. He had been sitting here all this time. There had been tea on the table, yet not once had the housekeeper offered him a cup! Clearly, the housekeeper wasn’t just forgetful—she knew exactly when to serve tea. As soon as Spencer and Nancy sat down, she immediately brought them tea.Even earlier, when she served them, she had completely ignored him, despite him sitting right there! Forget that he was thirsty—serving tea to a guest was just basic etiquette! And yet, she had deliberately skipped him while serving Spencer and Nancy! This was blatant humiliation! Before Zane could say anything, Nancy, now calm and collected, smiled and said, "Zane, you’re not young anymore. You’ve worked in the city government for years. Don’t tell me you can’t see through such an obvious setup by a fortune hunter trying to climb the social ladder?" Her mocking gaze sent another wave of anger surging through Zane. He felt like she was looking at him as if he were a foolish little monkey jumping around. Zane took a deep breath, forcing himself to stay calm. Recalling Ashley’s reaction in the news, he regained his confidence. They’re just pretending to be calm so I won’t see their embarrassment! "A setup by a fortune hunter?" Zane sneered. "Ha! I doubt it’s that simple. Arthur and your daughter had a huge falling out right in front of a room full of reporters!" He had expected them to panic at those words. But instead, they remained as composed as ever. Zane nearly lost it. Nancy waved a hand dismissively. "Oh, please. They’re just teenagers. It’s their first time dealing with something like this. Because they care so much about each other, it’s natural to lose perspective in the heat of the moment." When she said because they care so much about each other, she deliberately emphasized the words. "No one is born wise and shrewd. Everyone grows through experience. The more they go through, the more they’ll understand. Arthur is still young and incredibly capable. In the future, there will be plenty of scheming women trying to latch onto him. This Tia? She’s nothing." She paused, then added meaningfully, "Of course, young people might fall for these tricks, but we older folks? We’ve seen it all. We’re not so naive as to fall for such cheap schemes, are we?" Spencer chimed in, "Zane, did you seriously rush over here first thing in the morning just for this?" Nancy added with a smirk, "Surely, Mr. Zane isn’t that clueless and dim-witted?" The two of them played off each other perfectly, one after the other. With every sentence they spoke, Zane’s face turned redder and redder, as if it were on fire. He wanted nothing more than to find a hole to crawl into. He forced himself to take deep breaths, desperately trying not to lose his composure in front of them.
