Stronger Every Time I Die

Chapter 217 Trust Issues

Arthur was stunned. How could this be? How?She had clearly taken off the dress here just moments ago! How did it suddenly disappear? Time ticked by, second by second. Outside the room, Ashley and the reporters waited for Arthur’s findings. Just when everyone thought Ashley would explode in anger, she suddenly stepped forward and grabbed Arthur’s hand. Arthur stared at her in shock, his voice trembling as he called out, "Ashley..." Her face was unreadable. She simply said, "Let’s go home." Arthur gazed at her intently, unable to figure out what she was thinking. Her calmness felt almost unnatural. A sudden sense of unease gripped him. He wanted to stay and keep searching—he had to prove his innocence! Nothing had happened between him and Tia! In the past two years, Ashley had taken deep root in his heart. He couldn’t lose her. Arthur couldn’t even imagine what his life would be like without her. But as he turned back to the room, he saw that he had already searched every inch of it. The dress and wig were nowhere to be found. In the end, still in a daze, Arthur allowed Ashley to lead him away. Ashley remained silent the entire drive. She gripped the steering wheel, her face expressionless. Arthur sat in the passenger seat, trying to speak, but no matter what he said, she refused to respond. When they finally arrived at her house, Ashley made no move to get out. She spoke calmly. "Go home. I want to be alone for a while." "No!" Arthur instinctively refused. He looked at her seriously and said firmly, "Ashley, you have to believe me. Nothing happened between me and Tia! She tricked me into going to the hotel!" Ashley suddenly lost control. She screamed, "Nothing happened? Then why was the bed such a mess? Why was Tia’s clothes disheveled? And you! There’s lipstick on your collar!" Arthur instinctively looked down. Sure enough, there was a smudge of lipstick on his collar. When did Tia do this? When he was awake, she hadn't been able to touch him—he had stopped her both times!Arthur racked his brain. Then suddenly, it hit him. "It was in the car! I must have dozed off for a bit, and she did it then on purpose!" Ashley looked at him, her eyes filled with disappointment. "Arthur, do you really think I can believe that?" "No, it’s the truth! I swear I’m not lying!" Ashley let out a weary sigh. "Back there, in front of all those people, I couldn’t say anything. I know you didn’t do it on purpose. You were drunk..." Her voice softened with exhaustion. "Just go home. I need some time alone." She was drained. When she had come out of the restroom earlier, she realized Arthur was gone. At first, she assumed he had wandered off drunk, so she frantically searched for him. Then, in the middle of her search, she received a text from an unknown number. The message read, "This is Tia. I’m with Arthur in Room 608 at the Imperial Hotel." Ashley had been stunned. She hadn’t even thought twice before rushing to her car and heading straight to the hotel. When she arrived, she found the lobby packed with reporters. The moment they saw her, they swarmed toward her. She immediately knew something was wrong. Her instincts kicked in, and she dodged them, slipping into a nearby elevator. The doors barely closed in time as the reporters rushed forward, just a second too late. It was at that moment that she realized—Tia’s text might actually be true. Her body trembled uncontrollably. She was terrified. But she still forced herself to go to Room 608. To her shock, the reporters had somehow anticipated exactly where she would exit. Within minutes, they had found her floor. Just as she turned to leave, the door opened. The moment she saw them inside, her heart turned cold. She knew how drunk Arthur had been—so drunk he could barely string words together. Had they really…? She couldn’t bear to finish the thought.Arthur slumped into his seat, completely drained. He couldn’t figure it out. Where did the dress and wig go? The entire time, it had only been him and Tia in that room. No one else had entered. When did Tia manage to get rid of them? Suddenly, a thought struck him. Grabbing his phone, he quickly dialed Stanley, "Stanley! Pull up all the surveillance footage from South High and the Imperial Hotel—every camera from the entrance to Room 608!" Stanley had just received word about Arthur’s incident and was about to call him when Arthur’s call came through first.
