Stronger Every Time I Die
"You wish! Mr. Yoder designs clothes only when he feels like it! If you don't catch his eye, all the begging in the world won't help." John had hurried to flash a smile and squeeze through the crowd the moment the first voice rang out. Upon reaching the front, he feigned familiarity, saying, "Ah, you've finally arrived, I am John, been looking forward to meeting you!" Yoder, a man in his early thirties with shoulder-length hair tied back, exuded an artistic vibe. Dressed simply, he seemed somewhat out of place in the dazzling banquet hall, but no one dared to underestimate him. Arthur glanced over and felt a vague sense of familiarity. I think I've seen this man before. Yoder looked at John, puzzled, and asked, "And you are?" John's face stiffened! To think that he, the chairman of Gray Corporation, was unrecognized in South City? The people around felt a bit embarrassed, while those who often clashed with the Gray family were snickering. He must know John just shamelessly tried to strike up a conversation and got served. John chuckled awkwardly, "Mr. Yoder really has the privilege of forgetfulness. I am John, the chairman of Gray Corporation, we have met before." Yoder thought for a while and then realized, "Oh, it's you. No wonder you looked familiar." Relieved that he was finally recognized, John breathed a sigh of relief. Yoder, who lived secluded in the mountains, was reputed to be oblivious to worldly affairs, focusing solely on his designs. It's no rumor. But John couldn't help feeling humiliated that even he, the powerful head of the Gray family, had failed to make a lasting impression. With so many eyes on him now, he definitely didn't want to look bad, especially since he had a favor to ask later. John perked up with a smile, "Hearing that Mr. Yoder doesn't remember people, I'm fortunate to be remembered by him, truly a lucky day for me!" The crowd was silent. This man's skin is really thick! No wonder he's the head of Gray Corporation. After some small talk, John finally got to the point. He called over Zac, who was prepared, and introduced him to Yoder with great formality."Mr. Yoder, this is my son Zac. Today, we have a small matter to request your attention." Before John could continue, Yoder interrupted him, puzzled, "Son? Mr. John, don't you only have one son named Arthur? Did he change his name?" John's face froze. Murmurs rose all around. Zac, who was just about to greet Yoder with a practiced smile, was taken aback by his sudden question! His smile froze, and he clenched his fists! The thing I care about most is being called the adopted son of the Gray family—not John’s biological son! He felt like every gaze around him was piercing, like eyes boring into him, making him squirm uncomfortably. John could only force a smile. "Mr. Yoder, you might not be aware, but my rebellious son has been disowned by the Gray family. Now, I have only one son, Zac." "Disowned?" Yoder was surprised. "Then you really lost a great talent." "Talent?" John looked at Yoder in disbelief. That useless son has talent? The crowd was shocked to hear Yoder publicly praise Arthur, the disowned member of the Gray family! Yoder, who lived secluded in the mountains and had high standards, had refused many who wished to send their children to apprentice with him. With so many rising stars in South City, he had never favored anyone. But today, he publicly acknowledged a disowned individual so highly! They couldn't help but wonder if they had misjudged. Zac's fists tightened even more! That worthless guy! What talent could he possibly have! Yoder is praising him as a great talent right in front of me! Am I not excellent? I’m right here, can’t he see me? Unperturbed by the chatter, Yoder continued confidently, "I once met Mr. Gray briefly, just once, and I could tell, this young man will surely achieve great things one day! Not just me, my master also spoke highly of him." At that, the room erupted into a buzz!
