Stronger Every Time I Die
Although Natalie was young, she was known in South City as a tough character. Her discerning eye had amassed considerable assets at a young age. Even John, when standing before her, felt compelled to show her respect. John wasn't sure how extensive her assets were, but he knew she owned several estates just in her name. He didn't want to offend such a young and successful woman, and frankly, he couldn't afford to. John understood that if Natalie could amass such capabilities and assets, her family must be incredibly formidable. This was precisely why everyone was wary of her. John had people look into her, but Natalie remained a mystery, with no details of her family background to be found. Watching John, whose attitude changed faster than the blink of an eye, both Natalie and Ashley couldn't help but flash a look of disdain. Standing beside Natalie, Ashley, though only recently of age, matched Natalie in presence and even seemed poised to surpass her. "We are all here by invitation of the banquet hall. What right do you have to send Arthur away?" John's face froze at her retort, not just his but also those who had just taken part in trying to oust Arthur. Before John could respond, Susie stepped forward. "Who knows how he sneaked in here? We all came with invitations. Arthur? A person disowned by the Gray family, how could he possibly have an invitation?" Her words shifted the crowd's sentiment. "Right, no invitation, no entry. It's only fair for Mr. John to send him away. Aren't there security guards at the door? How did he get in without an invitation?" "Maybe he does have an invitation? Otherwise, we would've noticed something off when he entered." "A person who has been disowned by the Gray family and is still in school, broke enough to need a summer job to pay for tuition, how could he possibly receive an invitation?" "I never sent him an invitation; I don't know how he got in." "So, he really did sneak in?" Just as the crowd began to stir again, Ashley was about to reveal that Arthur was her guest when Arthur calmly produced an invitation from his pocket. The prominent gold-embossed words "Invitation" silenced everyone.Susie was quick to accuse, "Arthur! Where did you get this invitation? Speak! Who did you steal it from?" Her face was stern, as if she had witnessed Arthur committing the crime. The room buzzed again. "Did he steal the invitation?" "Come on, if he couldn't come, he shouldn't have, but to steal an invitation?" "You don't know what it's like to idolize someone. There are people so eager to move up in the world, they'll stop at nothing." "I can't believe it. He was once the son of the Gray family, and he'd stoop to this?" "There's still no proof, though. We might be accusing him wrongly." "We're all from prominent families here; the attendees are the elite of their clans. If he didn't steal it, how could a disowned pauper like him have an invitation?" "That makes sense." With that, led by Xavier, they had already judged Arthur guilty. Arthur hadn't expected Susie to blurt out accusations. Although Ashley was puzzled about how Arthur got the invitation, she firmly believed he wouldn't stoop to theft. "Ms. Susie? Did you actually see Arthur steal an invitation? Your baseless slander is enough for me to call the police and sue you!" Susie, who didn't recognize Natalie or Ashley, glanced at Ashley with disdain. "Arthur grew up right before our eyes. We know his character best. If he didn't steal it, then how did he get the invitation? Just now, it was clearly stated that he wasn't sent one!" "You!" Ashley was taken aback. She really didn't know where Arthur's invitation had come from. Just as Arthur was about to speak, a sudden exclamation at the door interrupted them. "Mr. Yoder! Mr. Yoder has arrived!" "My goodness! Mr. Yoder really came!" "Mr. Yoder looks even more handsome in person than in his photos!" "I can't believe I'm fortunate enough to meet Mr. Yoder!" "I wonder if I could ask him to make a piece of clothing."
