Stronger Every Time I Die
"I used to think it was unreasonable for the Gray family to favor their adopted son over their own, but now it seems it was all Arthur's own doing!" "Exactly, I feel embarrassed for him! He has no sense of shame!" John couldn't bear it any longer. He truly regretted letting Arthur be born in the first place—he regretted it countless times! Right after his birth, he should have found a way to end it! If he had been tough enough then, Zac wouldn't have had to suffer all these years. He snapped at Arthur with utter intolerance, "Arthur! If you have any sense, get out of here now! Don’t embarrass me here! I can’t afford to lose face like this!" "No, Mr. John," Arthur said seriously, "I've already cut ties with you, so whether I embarrass myself has nothing to do with you." Seeing Arthur so eager to dissociate, John was even more infuriated! At that moment, he truly wished he had never gone soft and let Arthur be born. He should have ended it while he was still in the womb! Amidst the noisy crowd, Ashley squeezed through. She had just gone to the restroom and came out to find the area crowded, which instinctively made her uneasy. As she neared the crowd, Ashley overheard Arthur's claim that the banquet was centered around him. Even after two years of knowing Arthur, Ashley was shocked by his arrogance, especially knowing the purpose of the event. The person they were all waiting to welcome was so highly regarded that even her father had sent her and her sister, Natalie, specifically to attend. For such a grand and important event, Arthur's words were indeed inappropriate. She quickly pushed through the crowd and subtly tugged at Arthur's sleeve. Arthur, noticing Ashley, turned around with a flash of joy in his eyes. "Ashley, I came here for you." Ashley was surprised. He never liked attending such events, so why would he come to the banquet hall to find her today? However, now wasn't the time to discuss this, and she leaned in to whisper, "Arthur, let's go outside to talk." As Ashley was about to lead Arthur out, he said, "No, I still have some things to do."Things hadn't escalated to the level he wanted yet; he needed to be a bit more patient. Ashley was taken aback and instinctively asked, "What else do you need to do?" Arthur reassuringly patted her hand, "You'll see in a bit." Arthur scanned the room; Yoder hadn’t arrived yet, nor had several key figures from South City. The real drama hadn’t even started yet. For now, he would let the situation ferment—the more intense it became, the more spectacular the climax would be. John spotted Ashley and immediately recognized her as the girl who had spoken up for Arthur at the police station years ago. He had thought she was just some poor kid’s daughter, surprised to see her attending this event. Looks like her family had some money after all, John thought with a flash of contempt in his eyes. But their status was nothing compared to the Gray family—they were insignificant! John impatiently said, "You two need to leave now! Don't disrupt our important event! You can’t handle the responsibility!" No one in the crowd really knew Ashley, and despite feeling it was inappropriate to drive her away just like that, no one was willing to risk offending John by speaking up for her. As Ashley was about to respond, a sharp, angry voice called out from the crowd. "Who is trying to send my sister away?" Natalie stepped forward, her fierce gaze startling John. "Ms. Natalie?" John exclaimed in surprise. Natalie grabbed Ashley's hand, "How did you end up here so quickly?" Just a moment ago, Ashley had gone to the restroom, and Natalie had been waiting at the door, but instead of her sister, the butler came to report that Ashley was confronting John. Natalie had immediately rushed over without hesitation. John, surprised by their affectionate interaction and noticing their resemblance, was taken aback. Natalie had just called her sister? Could it be... John tentatively asked, "This is your sister?" Ashley stood up straight and said, "What, if I weren't her sister, you could just send me away?" John was taken aback. Strangely, he thought Ashley's retort sounded just like Arthur!Under Natalie's stern gaze, John was forced to smile. "Of course not, there was a misunderstanding. Ms. Gibson is an invited guest of the banquet. How could I just send Ms. Gibson away? It’s just that I was upset by my wayward son and spoke foolishly."
