The Despised Luna's Comeback
A wave of unease washed over me as I stared at Caden. My hand, halfway raised, froze in midair. "Caden, are you okay? Are you feeling sick?" "Alpha, something's off. That energy—it's an attack. Stay alert!" Freya warned me from deep inside. My eyes widened. I could sense Caden's energy fully surging now. The sheer force of it made my heart race. Good thing I was an Alpha. If I were an Omega, I probably would've collapsed, completely overpowered. I slowly let out my Alpha aura to counter his. "Caden, what's going on?" I asked, shifting into a defensive werewolf posture and locking eyes with him Inside the room, our powers clashed. Mine was stronger, but his aura felt deadly. He looked at me like I was his worst enemy. Before I could react, Caden reached for my neck. I instantly released all my aura to push back against his grip. His expression looked strained, like he was in pain. "Do you know who I am?" My voice rose as I stared hard into his eyes. I couldn't bear to fight back, so I could only tense up my neck. "You ... " Caden panted heavily, a deep red tint creeping over his eyes. His gaze locked on me, intense and strained, the veins on his neck standing out sharply. His face turned more flushed. I bit my lip, clutched his wrist tightly, and looked straight at him. "Caden! Look at me! Don't you know who I am?" I was shocked. I didn't know what caused him to become like that all of a sudden, but I knew struggling would only make things worse. If either of us fought back, it could lead to both of us getting hurt. I didn't want him to completely lose control. "Caden, remember—you're the Eclipse Pack's heir. And you're my husband. Snap out of it!"My words seemed to reach him. He froze. Then, he stepped back a few paces and let go of me. But his eyes were still cold and sharp. Cough! Now free, I clutched my neck as pain flared along my throat, and I couldn't stop coughing. I gasped for air, trying to calm myself. Caden's strength wasn't any less than mine, even as an Alpha. Soon, the pressure around him faded, and I quickly drew back my Alpha aura. Caden was still breathing hard. He held his forehead for a second before looking at me. "Rosaline, what just happened to me?" "Are you okay?" I approached carefully, though I felt a bit more at ease now. He gently touched my neck, his expression filled with guilt and remorse. "I'm sorry. What have I done ... " Hearing him say that, I finally relaxed. "Did you notice anything odd just now? Anything that felt off?" I asked. It was hard not to be suspicious when a prospective heir suddenly lost control. Caden thought it over for a bit before replying, "It felt strange. Like something was messing with my head. Edward can't remember anything either." Hearing that, I realized he had already checked with his wolf. I frowned. Caden had been by my side all day. He hadn't come into contact with anyone or anything unusual. There had to be a reason for what happened. Shaking my head, I said, "Let's have Phoebe take a look." Caden agreed. Then, he gently touched my cheek, his eyes lingering near my neck. "I'm sorry," he said. He looked like he wanted to pull me into a hug, but he stopped himself. "Don't keep saying that." I leaned into him and wrapped my arms around his waist. "I know how to get through this. And I believe you'd never really hurt me." "Thanks." Caden lowered his head and gave the top of my head a light kiss. "You don't have to thank me." I smiled. It seemed that when he lost control, his mind had been cloudy, or he would've picked up on my Alpha status. As I smiled, he brushed my cheek with his thumb. "If I ever hurt you again, let your wolf bite me!" Frowning, I pressed my finger to his lips. "I won't let that happen again." ... Not long after, Phoebe came in and gave Caden a full check-up. She adjusted her glasses and said, "We'll have to wait for the blood test results. But for now, I don't see anything unusual." "That's odd ... " I murmured, nervously twisting a strand of my hair. If nothing from the outside caused it ... I looked at Caden again. A thought hit me, and I asked, "Caden, did you run into anyone unusual recently?" "Hmm?" he responded softly, slowly rising to his feet. I turned toward Phoebe. She glanced up from her files, thinking for a moment. "Aside from being with you, Mr. Holbrook only visited one other place these past few days." My eyes sharpened. I grabbed Caden's hand. "Let's go. I want to check that place out with you."
