The Despised Luna's Comeback

Chapter 653 I Know You, Rosaline

Caden frowned, his eyes flashing with unmistakable refusal. I knew he wanted to handle this alone, without dragging me into it. But after witnessing his earlier outburst, how could I just stand by? So I pressed further, "We need to figure this out together. Tell me, who did you go see?" Caden took my hand, recalling, "It was those werewolves we captured earlier. I looked into their backgrounds." "Those werewolves? Are they still of any use?" I asked. "Somewhat," he nodded. "One of their associates is the CEO of New Covenant Corporation. He owns a piece of land I've been eyeing." I couldn't help but laugh. "How cunning. Is this what they call 'the pot calling the kettle black'?" He pinched my nose lightly, a faint smile tugging at his lips. Later, we arrived at the place where he was keeping the werewolves. I never imagined that this warehouse-like facility held so many criminal werewolves Caden had detained. And these werewolves—clearly imprisoned for a while—all looked at Caden with desperate hope, pleading for release. As I scanned the room, my gaze landed on one werewolf in particular. A young male, lean and lanky, with long hair nearly covering his eyes. He stood out starkly among the bruised and burly werewolves around him. Sensing my stare, he lifted his head and smiled at me. I turned to Caden and asked, "Him?" Caden nodded. "Out of all of them, he's the only one who recognized me. He's also the one who revealed some of their organization's targets." With a wave of Caden's hand, the werewolf guards brought the young man forward. But his gaze remained fixed on my face. His lips curled into a faint smile, giving off an eerie vibe—as if we were long-lost friends. "You know why I'm here," Caden said coldly.Yet the young werewolf ignored him, staring intently at me instead. "I know you, Rosaline." I arched a brow. "Many people know me, but I don't know most of them. So your wording is a bit off." The werewolf chuckled, his already gloomy expression turning even more unsettling. "Then allow me to introduce myself. My name is Connor Horton." I searched my memory briefly before replying flatly, "I'm not interested in your name." "Why are you here? I'm a lawful citizen of the Werewolf Continent. This is illegal detention," Connor said innocently, as if he had no ties to any underworld dealings. "What nonsense? What did you do when Caden came to see you earlier?" I crossed my arms, locking eyes with him. But Connor merely blinked, staying silent. Phoebe, standing nearby, stepped forward coldly. "If you don't talk, I have a hundred ways to make you." "Such a pretty lady, yet so fierce. Are you single?" Connor teased, deliberately provoking her before turning back to me. "But Rosaline here—gentle and beautiful—clearly already has a boyfriend." Just as Phoebe flexed her wrists, ready to retort, I held her back. "Maybe we should talk alone," I said, leaning in with a smile. Connor's grin widened. "Gladly." Connor, clearly uneasy, tugged at my arm, not wanting me to engage further. I pressed his hand gently, shaking my head. "I have a feeling Mr. Lamar has a lot to say to me." Connor's smile turned almost radiant. "I do love a werewolf lady as lovely and gentle as you, Ms. Sinclair." "Maybe I am as lovely as you say," I replied, signaling the guards to take him to a private room. Caden stayed silent, his worry evident. I gave him a reassuring smile. "Don't worry. I'll be fine." Then I entered the room. Connor was tied to a chair, subtly testing his restraints. Even when I walked in, he barely reacted, still focused on his struggle."What a strange werewolf," I mused, sitting across from him with my arms crossed. At that, he finally stopped and looked up. "Oh? People have called me that since I was a kid. But I don't think so." A smirk played on his lips as if recalling something. "It's just that everyone else is too stupid." I remained silent, watching as his gaze drifted to my neck—where Caden's earlier grip had left marks. I made no effort to conceal them. I was waiting to see what he'd say next.
