The Despised Luna's Comeback
Caden's POV: Michelle hadn't shown up at my company for several days. I finally felt relieved, thinking she'd come to her senses. As long as she stayed out of my way, I didn't care. Things were going well, especially with Rosaline. Our relationship was moving fast, and the engagement ceremony was just around the corner. I had a lot of things on my plate. Besides dealing with meetings and paperwork, I also had to help Rosaline pick out dresses and rings. Lately, it felt like my whole world revolved around her. One afternoon, after we stepped out of a jewelry shop, Rosaline linked her arm with mine and said with a smile, "The ceremony is coming up soon, but your company's been busy. Don't worry about me—just focus on work." I gave her hand a reassuring pat. "No need to stress. Everything at the company is under control. Everyone knows we're getting engaged, so it makes sense for me to be with you." As we chatted, my phone rang. It was Michelle's werewolf bodyguard, and he sounded panicked. "Mr. Holbrook, something's wrong. Princess Michelle is missing!" I frowned and looked at Rosaline. I had a bad feeling about that. I didn't want to get dragged into it, but I couldn't ignore the call either. Michelle was in a foreign place. Even if I didn't like her much, I had to take care of her for Gerald's sake. Rosaline, having overheard, looked concerned. "What happened? Maybe you should check." I nodded and asked the bodyguard, "When did she disappear?" "It's been about two hours. I went to drop off some snacks for Princess Michelle's room, but no one answered the door. We had the receptionist unlock it, and the room was empty. We checked the cameras and saw her answering a call before leaving. I only have your number, Mr. Holbrook. Please help us find her!" The bodyguard sounded panicked and desperate. I didn't hesitate. I ended the call and quickly dialed the leader of the werewolf guards in the Eclipse Pack. "Princess Michelle is gone. Bring as many people as you can. Search all over Rivemon." After slipping my phone into my pocket, I noticed the concern on Rosaline's face. I took a deep breath, tried to stay calm, and gently held her hand. "Michelle is Gerald's daughter. Now she's missing, and I must do everything I can to find her. If not, I won't be able to face him."Rosaline nodded with understanding. "I get it. We can skip shopping. What matters now is finding her. I'm also worried." We didn't waste a second. We rushed through Rivemon's busiest streets, asking anyone we saw if they'd seen Michelle. But by the time night fell, there was still no sign of her. Even the werewolf guards had turned up nothing. No one had a clue where she could be. Left with no other option, we went home. Still, we kept checking in with the guards in case they found something. At around 8:30 p.m., my phone suddenly rang. The number wasn't familiar. Rosaline quickly stood up and came over, her eyes locked on the screen. I paused for a second, then answered. Something told me it might be about Michelle. "Hello, who is this?" "Is this Caden Holbrook from the Eclipse Pack?" said a strange voice, robotic and clearly altered with a voice changer. "Who are you? What do you want?" The voice let out an eerie laugh. "We've got Princess Michelle. Her phone only had your number saved. If you want her back, go to Brooksdale Island." My heart raced when I heard her name. "What did you do to her?" The voice on the phone sounded irritated, and his attitude suddenly turned sharp. "We've had our eyes on her for days. She's the little princess from Fostrau—asking for ransom is expected, isn't it? Too bad we only got your number. Quit stalling. If you want her alive, get to the island in two hours. Come alone. If you bring anyone else, she'll die!" The call ended with a click. I clenched my lips tightly and turned to Rosaline. "That was the kidnappers. They've taken Michelle to the island. I'm heading there right now. Don't worry—I'll be careful. Stay here and wait for me." Rosaline looked just as worried, but she knew the rules. The kidnappers had warned me to come alone, so she had no choice but to stay. Saving Michelle was what mattered most. I rushed out and caught the last ship going to the island. Without thinking twice, I got on. By the time I arrived, night had already fallen. On the way, the kidnapper called again several times, using a voice changer. He gave me directions to a small cabin deep in the woods. As I got closer, bad memories from my childhood came flooding back. I remembered that Michelle was in there, so I still opened the door. However, I saw her standing there, smiling calmly. She didn't look like someone who had been kidnapped. I frowned, ready to say something, but then I noticed a weird smell in the air. "Michelle, you ... " My head started spinning, and everything went dark. It hit me right before I lost consciousness—I had walked straight into a trap.
