The Despised Luna's Comeback
"Heidi?" Everett paused when he recognized the voice on the phone. Then, with obvious annoyance and sarcasm, he asked, "You're still alive?" I pressed my lips together, softened my tone, and said carefully, "I called you today ... because I need your help to get back to Rivemon. I want to go back." "Back to Rivemon?" Everett's voice suddenly rose, and he scoffed. "Heidi, don't you think it's a bit late to be asking me this? What makes you think you have the right to make demands or bargain with me? I'd suggest you don't bother me again, or I'll call the police." I was scolded so badly I didn't dare answer back. Everett was a cold and calculating person who only cared about profit. I was just a pawn with no value left—used and discarded. As he was about to hang up, I quickly pleaded, "Wait, Everett!" "Is there anything else?" His voice came through again, cold and flat, with no patience, as if he might snap at me any second. I gritted my teeth, my heart racing as I took a deep breath to calm myself. "Everett Lloyd." I mustered the courage to say his full name for the first time. Before, I had always lived carefully, constantly watching Everett's reaction, afraid that one wrong move would ruin me. But now, I wanted revenge. If Rosaline and Caden managed to get engaged, I feared I would live the rest of my life like an empty shell. I was willing to pay any price to get Caden! Everett didn't speak, but he didn't hang up either. I paused for two seconds, realizing the call hadn't ended, and let out a sigh of relief before continuing, "Let's make a deal. As you said, I'm not in prison, I'm overseas. But if you help me get back to Rivemon, I'll do anything for you. From now on, whatever you ask, I'll do it, as long as ... as long as it stops Caden and Rosaline's engagement ceremony in a few days. After that, my life will be yours." This time, Everett didn't mock me. Instead, there was a long silence. After a while, he coldly said, "You're the one making this offer. If you betray me again, you know what will happen to you." I let out a relieved sigh. As long as I could get back and ruin Caden's engagement ceremony, I'd deal with the rest later. The most important thing was to agree now."Okay, I understand. Just help me," I responded quickly. Everett sneered. "Fine, I'll arrange a flight for you the day after tomorrow and have someone get your ticket to Rivemon. I'll send you the details, but if you miss the flight and can't make it back, that's not my problem." The call ended, and I held the phone, feeling both helpless and joyful, along with a sense of satisfaction at the thought of reclaiming what I had lost. "Rosaline, you can't be with Caden, absolutely not!" Two days later, I stepped off the plane, and walked out of Rivemon's airport with my suitcase. As I descended the stairs at the main entrance, I spotted a white sedan parked nearby. I recognized the car—it was one of Everett's. "Ms. Tessford, you're back," the driver said indifferently, as if I were a stranger. I sat in the back seat, my head slightly lowered, not saying a word. I felt both nervous and excited. The thought of seeing Everett always made me anxious, a feeling that had become second nature over the years. When we arrived outside the office, I took a moment to calm myself, taking two deep breaths before pushing the door open. Everett heard the sound and looked up. Seeing me, he smiled faintly and said, "You're finally here." "Um." It took me a while to respond. I slowly walked toward Everett, still keeping some distance between us. "What do you need me to do?" Everett nodded with satisfaction. "Seems like you've got some sense." He turned around and reached for a small box on the shelf behind his office chair. When he opened it, I saw a tiny, spherical object inside, with a few wires sticking out. It looked a bit like a bomb from a movie. "What is this?" I asked, confused. "This?" Everett smiled, handing me the box. "This is a new type of small bomb I just got. In seven days, it's Caden and Rosaline's engagement party. I'll make sure you get an invitation, and when you're there, you need to place this bomb at the event to make sure they—" Everett stopped talking, making a cutthroat gesture, his eyes turning cold as he stared at me. "Understand?" I was taken aback.I didn't expect Everett to have such a plan, but his hatred for Rosaline didn't surprise me. All I could think of now was one thing: let them die. I looked down at the box he handed me, gritted my teeth, and took the bomb. "Okay, I know."
