I Married My Ex's Billionaire Uncle

Chapter 10

Liza’s POV “Miss Sinclair, this is a tricky situation. If anyone finds out about this, I'll lose my job here and I need to take care of my wife and kids. It's not that I want more money but this is just too risky.” As the recording played, there was a heavy silent in the room. Serena suddenly jerked up in her, her face turned pale in shock. “What? How? What did you do to get this recording?” I tilted my chin. “Dear little sister, it looks like something has come back to you.” Victoria and Mr. Sinclair just stared at Serena in shock, unable to say anything because of the weight of the evidence. Finally, Mr Sinclair asked, his voice full of confusion. “What's going on, Serena?” “Dad, do….don't ask me anything,” Serena stuttered, shaking her head. “Mom, please, could you both take a moment to yourselves? I need to talk to Liza by myself.” Victoria looked unsure, and her instinct to protect was strong. After giving me one last look, she gave up. “Liza, don't do anything dangerous to your sister, okay?” Mr. Sinclair was also hesitant at first but he led Victoria out of the room. “We'll be outside. Call us if something goes wrong.” As soon as they had taken the exit out and Serena and I were alone, she sat properly up in bed and her mood changed immediately. It felt like she had just took off her mask of innocence. She flashed me a fake smile and asked. “Where did you get that recording? Some people are so mean. Why do they want to cause problems between us as sisters?” I dragged a chair out and slouched into it. “Aren't you sick of playing all the time?” I asked in a serious tone. I was genuinely sick of her tactics. “You already know what you're really like, but you're still acting like you care.” Serena dropped her head in between her palms while her shoulder shook with rage. Finally, the scowl was back on her face as she shouted. “Liza, why did you come back? You were already sent out to the slum. Why not just stay there, or even better, die there? Why do you have to come back and steal my title as the daughter of the Sinclair family?” She was yelling, every word filled with so much anger. “Why did you take my fiance? What was the point of that stubborn old man giving you the shairs of Sinclair Corporation and making those silly rules? Why?! How am I less important than you? With my schooling, skills and good manners, how am I less good than you? There's nothing good about you. You can't even put on make up right. But as soon as you come back into my life, everything I've worked for is taken away, why?” Her bloodshot eyes were burning with hatred. “Why? Why does it have to be?” She continued screaming.“Maybe it's because everything you think you own was never yours to begin with,” I replied to her in a calm and almost too soft way. I continued. “If your mother hadn't gotten in the way of my parents’ marriage, I would have grown up in Li City with the family I was meant to have. I would have had all the chances to learn and do things that you have done but you and your mom took what should have been mine, though. You've built your life on stolen ground.” “That's not true!” Serena was shaking as she clenched her hands into balls. “My mom didn't get in the way of your parent's marriage! Your mom was the one who couldn't hold on to her man!” “What?!” I exclaimed in disbelief. I was shocked by Serena’s crazy logic. It made me pause for a moment. “So in your reasoning, if I go ahead and officially marry Brandon, making him my husband, then you, his so-called childhood sweetheart, were left because you couldn't keep him? Does it work that way?”“No!” She objected immediately. “That's not the same. You used him against me. Your boss and you used the company stock to get Brandon to agree!” “Oh, so it's always the other people’s fault, right?” I asked with a sarcastic tone. “You act so good while keeping something that was stolen. Wow, that was great. I learned a lot today but let us return to the main point now, shall we?” My face was serious now. “How can someone who was never pregnant have a miscarriage?” Serena froze and for a moment, her face was blank. Then she looked up and smiled sweetly at me, as if she was getting over the shock. Her earlier fear had turned into calmness. A calmness I didn't expect, which showed she must have something else up her sleeves, but I was ready for her. “Liza, what's your proof that I wasn't pregnant? Was it because of that tape? You should know that recordings can be faked, though. Who is it to say if it's true?”Amused, I asked. “Are you going to lie your way through this?” Serena’s well-thought-out lies might have worked if it were someone else. This time, she was up against me and that was bad enough for her. “If you think those reports will show you're innocent, you might be in for a rude awakening because I have more,” I warned, my voice filled with quiet confidence. I tapped on my phone screen again and a video popped up. I turned the device to Serena so she could see it clearly. As I watched my sister’s face lose color, I let out a bark of laughter.
