The Replacement He Never Wanted

Chapter 513 Do You Have Feelings for Him?

Matthew frowned as he watched Ryan's unsteady movements. "Hey ... Ryan, slow down." Ryan quickly waved him off. "I'm fine, I'm fine. I didn't fall." Flashing a bright grin at them, he took off in a light jog. "I'm heading out first! You two get some rest." Dressed in a crisp white shirt and black pants, he moved effortlessly beneath a sky that was glittering with stars. As he stepped backward with casual ease, he waved at Addison and Matthew, who remained standing still. For a fleeting moment, his radiant smile seemed to freeze time itself. Everything around them softened, wrapped in the warmth of that starlit sky. ... Matthew didn't look away until Ryan was completely out of sight. He knew exactly what that kid was up to. Addison might not see it, but if he couldn't figure it out either, then he have lived truly lived all these years in vain. "Do you have feelings for that kid?" "Hmm?" Addison blinked in surprise. "Who?" Matthew gestured toward the direction Ryan had left. "That kid just now." "Of course not. Don't be ridiculous. "We're just colleagues, that's all." She had always seen Ryan as a little brother, nothing more. Matthew wasn't entirely convinced. He let out a quiet huff but didn't press the issue. He knew Addison well enough, and his gut told him there was something between them—something unspoken, something even she might not have realized yet. Honestly, if Addison did end up with Ryan ... he wouldn't be against it. It wasn't like he was some old-fashioned conservative. As long as it didn't go against common decency, he was open-minded enough to accept most things. Besides, Ryan seemed a lot more easygoing than Lance. He also looked like the type who knew how to take care of others. And honestly, anyone was better than that hot-tempered Lance. "Grandpa, what's on your mind?" Addison eyed Matthew suspiciously. Her gut told her that if he had been this quiet for so long, he must be up to no good. "Oh, nothing." Matthew waved it off. "What could I possibly be thinking about? Just wondering when you and that brat Lance will finally break up." "Come on, let's go." He strode ahead toward the mansion, leading the way. As he moved forward, his thoughts were still tangled up in the same dilemma. Lance and Ryan ... Forget it, Ryan isn't exactly a good option either ... When it came down to it, both of them were born and raised in a backwater place like Halton—they weren't worthy of Addison. He needed to head back to Kreshill and pick out a few decent men for her. The next morning, Addison finally let out a sigh of relief after dropping Matthew off at the airport. On the way there, he had been talking nonstop—so much so that he even got worked up about finding her a man in Kreshill. That comment startled Addison so much that she nearly flung the water bottle in her hand. She was still a married woman, after all—her divorce hadn't even gone through yet. Yet, under these circumstances, Matthew was already still trying to set her up with someone else? His disapproval of Lance couldn't have been more obvious. She quickly set the bottle down and waved her hands in protest, making her stance crystal clear. "Grandpa, don't you dare try to find me a man for. Even if you do, I'm not meeting him." She had to shut this idea down before it even had a chance to take root. "Why not?" Matthew huffed, his mustache bristling as he glared at her. "Anyone in Kreshill is a better option than Halton.""Doesn't matter. I'm not going. End of discussion."
