The Replacement He Never Wanted

Chapter 497 Open the Door

All Lance knew was what would happen if she ran this fast and fell? What if she twisted her ankle or hurt her leg again? Thinking about it, Lance pursed his lips. "I'll go take a look." He bowed slightly to the two of them before quickly following Addison down the stairs. "Hey—Lance! Slow down, watch your step!" Addison reached the bottom of the stairs quickly, but it was clear there was no sign of Virginia in the living room. She didn't know where Virginia might have taken Steven, so she grabbed a passing worker. "Did you see anyone pushing a hospital bed by here?" The worker shook their head. "Alright, thank you." She asked several more people, and finally, someone had seen Virginia. Addison immediately ran in the direction the person pointed, stopping at a door. Without hesitation, she reached for the handle. It wouldn't open. The person inside had locked it from the inside. The door had a keypad lock, its blue light shining brightly. She didn't know the code. Addison frowned, feeling stuck. With no other choice, she began pounding on the door, almost shaking the walls with the force. But there was still no response. Her unease grew stronger, the bad feeling more intense. Her hand ached from knocking, but she didn't stop. "Virginia, I know you're in there, come out! "Marilyn is out here too. You'd better not do anything rash." She tried to threaten Virginia, hoping to scare her into responding. But still, there was no answer. Just as Addison raised her hand to knock again, a hand gently landed on her shoulder. She instinctively turned, and saw a familiar face. The man's eyes were deep, and she could see her own reflection in his pupils."Lance ... ?" "You ... " Before she could finish, Lance lowered his head and gently placed his hand on the door lock. Even though he didn't know what Addison was trying to do, he felt an urge to help her. It was something he couldn't control. With a few swift movements, he pressed some numbers on the lock. After a soft beep, the door swung open. Addison didn't have time to thank him. She immediately stepped inside. Time was critical, and even a second could make the difference between life and death. But all she found was a large bed with Steven lying peacefully on it, his face calm and serene. The room was unusually quiet. There was no sign of Virginia. And no terrifying scene like she had imagined. Addison didn't think about where Virginia had gone. She rushed to Steven's side, grabbed his hand, and immediately began checking his pulse.Seeing Addison's actions, Lance started to feel that something was wrong. "What's going on? Is Grandpa okay?" He stood behind Addison, his worry growing as he watched the elderly man. Addison furrowed her brow as she checked his pulse. It was steady, even healthy—there were no signs of poisoning or injury. Did Virginia do nothing? Was she just overreacting? Addison's face turned pale, and she silently withdrew her hand. "How is he? Is Grandpa okay?"
