The Replacement He Never Wanted

Chapter 496 Panic

Lance stepped forward from behind and spoke, his voice low but filled with a solemn intensity. "From now on, if you ever needs anything, we will spare no effort in helping your family." He extended his hand, aiming for a handshake, a sign of respect. Addison looked up at him. His expression was stern, his usually hard features unusually serious. She turned her gaze to her grandfather. Her intuition told her that, there was a 99 percent chance her grandfather wouldn't be giving Lance a warm reception. "No need for this." Matthew's response was as indifferent as when he had rejected Marilyn's gratitude. However, when Lance extended his hand, Matthew didn't make a move to reciprocate the gesture. Lance's hand hung in the air, neither pulling back nor continuing to reach out. "Divine Healer?"Matthew stroked his beard, unfazed. The atmosphere grew awkward. Addison couldn't help but bite her lip; she had expected this. The uncomfortable silence was inevitable. "Divine Healer, you've been performing surgery for so long. You must be tired. I've already had someone prepare a fresh meal downstairs. "Shall we head down now?" Marilyn stepped in with a smile, trying to smooth things over. She didn't know why Matthew was acting this way all of a sudden, but she was certain her son must have done something to upset him. Otherwise, with Matthew's temperament, he wouldn't behave like this for no reason. She'd have to ask Lance about it later. "Alright, let's go downstairs," Addison also stepped in, trying to ease the tension. She didn't want Marilyn to feel uncomfortable. Lance's dark eyes lingered on Matthew for a moment, then he slowly withdrew his hand with a thoughtful look. "It seems like Divine Healer doesn't like to shake hands. I apologize for the disrespect." Matthew didn't spare him a glance, still stroking his beard as he walked straight ahead, leaving Lance behind. Addison hurried to follow. Just as she was about to take a step, something suddenly didn't feel right in her mind. Where was Steven? Where was Virginia? A bad thought crept into her mind. The excitement from the successful surgery that had filled her just moments ago vanished. She even felt a chill, as if the blood in her veins had turned to ice. "Where's Mr. Steven?" Addison asked urgently. "Virginia took him downstairs already," Marilyn answered calmly. As soon as Marilyn spoke, Addison's face turned pale. She rushed to the elevator, frantically pressing the button on the wall. When the elevator seemed too slow, she released the button and sprinted toward the stairs. "Addison, where are you going?"Marilyn and Lance both looked at her in confusion, even Matthew was puzzled. "What's going on, Addison?" But Addison didn't have time to respond. Her only thought now was to save Steven. Alone in Virginia's hands, there was a strong possibility that she might do something to the unconscious elderly man. She rushed into the stairwell, practically running down the stairs with a reckless abandon. Marilyn watched as Addison sped up, growing more anxious, and shouted after her. "Addison, slow down, be careful!" But there was no answer. Lance frowned, unsure where Addison was going or what she intended to do.
