The Replacement He Never Wanted
Lance grabbed her wrist. "Mom, please don't make things difficult for her." "Make things difficult for her?" Marilyn scoffed, a cold laugh escaping her lips. "Who could possibly make things difficult for your precious? You really have a high opinion of your mother. "I wouldn't make things difficult for anyone, especially not her." Virginia kept her face neutral, but inside, she was rolling her eyes. This witch and her passive-aggressive comments. Marilyn crossed her arms, clearly resisting Virginia. Lance, seeing the tension between them, pressed his lips together. "Mom, since you don't really want to see Virginia, why don't you let her take Grandpa downstairs first?" He hated the tense atmosphere in the house. "That way, you'll feel a little better." "What do you mean by that?" Marilyn's voice had an edge to it now.But her nature was calm, and she wouldn't lash out. She simply held everything in, sighing deeply and remaining silent. "I just want you to be a little less upset." "You're protecting Virginia, aren't you? Stop using me as an excuse." "Fine. Do whatever you want." "I can't control you anymore." Marilyn waved her hand in resignation, stepping aside and falling silent. Since Marilyn had given in, Virginia immediately seized the opportunity. "Marilyn, Lance, I'll go downstairs first. "I'll take Mr. Steven back to his room and wait for you there." Her voice was soft and humble, her demeanor humble. "Alright, go ahead." The elevator was large enough to comfortably fit two hospital beds. Virginia smiled as she pushed the bed inside, eager to leave. Once the doors closed, her smile disappeared completely.Looking at Steven, who lay motionless on the bed, a cold, calculating look passed through her eyes. It was as if a demon had finally revealed its true form, its fangs showing. She reached out and pinched Steven's arm tightly. The skin on his arm turned bright red from the pressure. But the elderly man didn't stir, clearly still under the effects of the anesthesia, deep in sleep. Virginia let out a quiet breath of relief. She needed to be sure he was truly unconscious before she could act. As she prepared to make her move, she glanced around cautiously, noticing a security camera in the corner of the elevator. Her outstretched hand froze for a moment. There was a camera here. This could be risky. Virginia lowered her gaze, staring at Steven, deep in thought. ... Meanwhile, Matthew had changed back into his regular clothes and was walking down the hallway with Addison. Before they reached the end, Marilyn had already approached them. "My family is eternally grateful for your care, Divine Healer. You have given us a second chance at life." Marilyn bowed deeply, her eyes full of sincerity, almost as if she was ready to bow. "Please, get up." Matthew, like Marilyn, had a humble personality and never put on airs. He immediately stepped forward to help her. "Saving lives is a doctor's duty. No need for thanks." Matthew stroked his beard, waving his hand casually, giving off a carefree vibe. If anyone should be thanked, it was Addison, really. If it weren't for Addison's insistence, Matthew would never have come. But Addison, that fool, never mentioned all the things she'd done for the Johnstons. She kept it all inside, never asking for anything in return, and got nothing out of it.
