The Replacement He Never Wanted
Since Lance couldn't find the time to respond to her anytime soon, Addison decided to put her phone on speaker and leave it on the table, continuing to pick herbs. Conversely, Lance was tangled up with Virginia's constant crying. It was as though the last straw had been pulled from her, and she sobbed uncontrollably, tears flowing like a downpour. "Lance, do you not want me anymore?" Her voice trembled as if she might faint any moment. People outside the hospital couldn't help but glance over at them. Virginia cried relentlessly, clinging to Lance's arm, her body slowly sinking toward the ground as if she were about to collapse. Lance was taken aback by her sudden outburst. He didn't understand what was going on. Seeing this scene, many hurried passersby couldn't help but glance over. Some even stopped in their tracks, watching them with curious eyes. "I'm telling you, this guy's ridiculously charming, and the girl's in tears. He's probably the ultimate player!"I've seen this kind of man a lot! They hold onto women when they're poor, but once they find something better, they immediately kick her to the curb. "A man like this has no integrity! People would've run him out of town back in the day!" The crowd around them began to chatter, each adding their own opinions. They quickly painted Lance as completely wrong without knowing the whole story. His face turned pale as he listened to the gossip. "Stand up and speak." His voice was low, barely containing his rising anger. If Virginia didn't get up soon, he had no idea how he'd be judged by the crowd. "Lance." Virginia didn't stand up, still clinging to his arm as if desperately needing an answer. "Lance, tell me, do you still want me?" "Of course I do," Lance answered without hesitation. "Then, Lance. Why are you calling Addison?" Virginia hiccupped through her sobs, each sentence broken into several parts before she could barely get the words out. "My grandfather is lying in a hospital bed and needs Addison's help to bring the Divine Healer. Of course, I need to call her." Lance seemed a bit impatient. "What can Addison help with?" Virginia blurted out in disdain without thinking. As soon as the words left her mouth, she realized something was off. No, she almost forgot. Addison wasn't the helpless orphan she once was. She was now the esteemed daughter of the Daves; of course, she could call the Divine Healer! A wave of jealousy surged in Virginia's chest, threatening to spill over. "Addison already helped me call the Divine Healer. Do you think she can't help?" Lance's patience was running thin. "If you want to save my grandfather, calling Addison is unavoidable. Stop making an unreasonable fuss." "Stand up and speak." But today, Virginia didn't seem to care. Maybe it was because she couldn't get the precious blue diamond she longed for, or perhaps it was because she'd been 'trapped' in the hospital too long, with nowhere for her emotions to go. She seemed to have gathered the courage to ignore his words and continued crying, refusing to let go of his arm. Lance's patience wholly evaporated. He instinctively raised his arm to shake her off, but just as he was about to do so, the voices of the people nearby sounded again. "Look at how this man is moving his arm—he's not going to hit her, is he?" "Not only is he a scoundrel, but he's also about to lay hands on a woman? What kind of man does that?" "This is unbelievable!" Lance's hand froze mid-motion. His lips pressed into a straight, rigid line as he remained still, stiff with tension. "Virginia, what do you want?" His words came out through clenched teeth. "I don't want anything. I feel insecure." "I feel like you are going to be taken away by another woman, and then I won't have a family." Virginia's eyes were red, her lips pressed tight as she fought to hold back the tears of hurt and fear. "I won't leave you. Don't worry." Lance gritted his teeth and forced himself to speak gently. "Really?" Virginia blinked, looking up at him with wide eyes. Lance nodded without expression. "Mm, really." "Then, Lance, say you love me. I'll believe it." "What?" Lance was briefly stunned before repeating, "Say what?" "Lance, I want to hear you say you love me." Virginia slowly stood up, her gaze hopeful, as though just one sentence from him could instantly improve her mood.
