The Replacement He Never Wanted
She needed a sense of security. Since Lance couldn't reassure her through his actions, Virginia hoped at least she could get some through his words. But Lance hesitated. The words that had once come so easily now stuck in his throat, as though something was stopping him from saying, 'I love you.' It felt like the word had gotten tangled in his mind, refusing to leave his lips. "Lance." Her gaze was almost pleading. "Lance, you won't even say such a simple thing?" "I ... " The man pressed his lips together, unsure of what to say. He didn't even know why he couldn't say the word. It was as if someone was blocking him from saying it. Had he stopped loving Virginia? The crowd around them had gradually lost interest in the drama. Many had already gone about their business, with only a few still watching. Although the number of onlookers had decreased, the atmosphere had grown even more tense. Lance stood stiffly, silent for a long time.Virginia stood beside him, feeling a coldness that also made her stiff. "Lance, Now you're not even willing to say one sentence to me, is that it? "Then why am I even staying by your side? Is all my love for you just one-sided?" A bitter smile crept up on Virginia's lips. She smiled a few times, but then her mental state seemed to unravel. Suddenly, she straightened up, and before Lance could react, she snatched his phone. The phone was already in her hands when he realized what had happened. "Virginia, What are you doing?" Whether it was guilt, hesitation, or something else, Lance's tone softened, almost gentle, as he tried to calm Virginia down. But Virginia seemed to ignore him completely. She raised the phone to her ear and called out, "Addison." There was no response."Addison, I know you can hear me. Stop pretending." Still, there was no answer. Virginia laughed. "Fine. If you want to pretend you can't hear me, go ahead. I'm not stopping you." "But you better listen to this." "If you really want to divorce Lance, then stop stalling. You keep saying you want out, but your actions tell a different story. You're nothing but a manipulative hypocrite!" "Women like you who try to steal other people's boyfriends always get their comeuppance!" Virginia's tone was sharp, almost like she was giving up on trying to control herself. After saying this, she seemed unsatisfied, as if she wanted to say more. "Women like you, always after someone else's man, won't end well!" "Give me the phone," Lance snapped, grabbing it from her hand before she could continue. Virginia, caught off guard by the sudden movement, was yanked forward by the force. Unable to steady herself, she collapsed to the ground with a thud. "Lance."Virginia collapsed weakly, tumbling on the ground. "Lance, You actually pushed me down for Addison. You made me fall to the ground." She glanced at her arm with a frown. Her delicate skin had been scraped raw by the rough ground, and blood oozed from the wound. Not looking at it would've been better, but now that she did, her tears began to fall uncontrollably. "Lance, you would never let me get hurt before. But now, look at my arm." She pointed at the bleeding wound on her arm, and her eyes filled with frustration. "Does Addison's life matter more than mine?" "If it weren't for me acting fast, I could've fallen down the stairs by now, and who knows if I'd even be alive!" The more Virginia spoke, the more hysterical she became. Her tears flowed freely, and her sobs turned into gasps for air. Her body trembled as if she were on the verge of collapsing. Lance stood there, stunned, but his expression softened with deep regret. He hadn't meant to push Virginia. He just wanted to take the phone back from her. He hadn't expected her to fall like that. Instinctively, he stepped forward to help her up. "Virginia, I'm sorry. "I'll help you up." Lance bent down, trying to make things right, reaching out to lift her. But Virginia wasn't in the mood to appreciate his gesture. She turned her face away, deliberately refusing to look at him as if she were sulking. "I don't want your apologies." She stared down at the blood still trickling from her wound, speaking in a tone full of self-pity.
