Alpha Raelyn: The Alpha They Never Saw Coming

Chapter 222 Seriously Poisoned

Seeing that I was angry, Aiden paused for a moment before finally saying, “It’s nothing, really. Someone was planning to ambush you at the hospital. I overheard it and stopped them in time…” That morning, he’d been walking down the hospital hallway when he accidentally overheard two werewolves plotting to ambush me. They planned to drug me with wolfbane and take me away once I stepped out. Aiden, wanting to protect me, immediately went after them. But he hadn’t noticed that they were both armed with sharp daggers. In the scuffle, he was slashed across the chest. The two werewolves escaped, and only then did he realize that their blades had been laced with wolfbane. “So you took that hit for me? And the fever—it’s because the wolfbane poisoned you, isn’t it?” I looked at him, heart aching. Aiden wrapped his arm around my waist and gently comforted me. “It’s fine. I already took an antidote. It’s not the first time I’ve been injured. You don’t need to be so upset.” Tears welled up in my eyes. I sniffled. “But you got hurt because of me. Do you know how much I wish I could take your pain for you?” Aiden gave my nose a little squeeze. “If you were the one who got hurt, I’d feel even worse.” Then he turned my face toward him, his voice serious. “Raelynn, I’m just glad it wasn’t you.” “Miss…” Suddenly, a knock came at the door. Aiden gently nudged me. “Go see who it is.” I opened the door and found a middle-aged werewolf standing there with a warm smile. “I’m Mr. Greg’s family doctor—Chandler. He asked me to come check on Mr. Salvatore.” “Dr. Chandler, please come in.” Dr. Chandler had a kind demeanor, so I didn’t turn him away. After a thorough examination, the doctor’s previously calm expression gradually turned grim. He furrowed his brows. “Dr. Chandler, what’s wrong with Aiden?” Dr. Chandler narrowed his eyes and thought for a while before sighing. “This wound isn’t just a simple cut. The blade was laced with multiple toxins. The poison is spreading through his system—it’s serious.” My eyes widened. “He said it was wolfbane and that he already took the antidote.” “You wouldn’t know this, but although this toxin is similar to wolfbane, it causes far more severe tissue rot. I’ve been practicing medicine for years, and I’ve never seen anything like it… or maybe I’m just not knowledgeable enough to identify it.” My heart sank. Aiden didn’t know much about poisons. When he started feeling sick, he thought it was just wolfbane and took the wrong antidote. Now it looked like he had misjudged it. And because of that, the treatment had been delayed, and the wound had become inflamed. I looked down to study the wound on his chest more carefully. At first glance, the festering gash looked familiar—but I couldn’t immediately recall where I’d seen it before. “Thank you, Dr. Chandler. Could you prescribe something to slow down the poison’s spread?” Dr. Chandler nodded. “I will. Don’t worry.” After seeing him off, Aiden looked at me with concern. “It’s okay. See? I’m still alive.” Despite his words, the color on his face was visibly worsening. I gave him a glare. “Yeah, you’re still alive—for now. What if it gets worse and you die on me?” “Don’t say stuff like that. I’ll be fine.” “But Aiden, this wound looks really familiar. I feel like I’ve seen it before.” Aiden looked curious. “Where would you have seen it?” “I think it was…” I narrowed my eyes, and then suddenly remembered. I quickly pulled out my phone and called Jackson. “What’s wrong, Raelynn?” It sounded chaotic on Jackson’s end, like he was in a meeting or something. “What kind of injury did you have last time you got hurt?” Jackson answered honestly. “I was bitten by a venomous snake. That’s what caused the injury. If Dr. Raven hadn’t treated me, I’d be dead.” My eyes lit up. “Right. It was the snake!” I ended the call and turned to study Aiden’s wound again. The skin around it was peeling, dark blood oozed out, and the tissue looked damaged—just like the symptoms of a venomous snake bite. “Aiden, I think your wound came from someone soaking a dagger in snake venom. That’s why it’s festering like this.” Aiden listened to my explanation, and realizing the seriousness of it, asked, “So how do you think we can treat it?” “It’s simple. All we need is the Spirit Fruit. I’ll ask Raven for one.” The Spirit Fruit I currently had was reserved for treating Wesley. It could only be used once. Without hesitation, I picked up the phone and called Raven.
