Alpha Raelyn: The Alpha They Never Saw Coming

Chapter 151 Unrequited Love

The moment I said that, Jackson’s face changed drastically. Aiden said coldly, “I’m leaving. As for the partnership, we’ll go with the plan we discussed.” He didn’t look at me again and turned to leave. Jackson watched him go, then clutched his chest and let out a long sigh. “Raelyn, why do you have to do this? You clearly like each other. What’s the point of all this pretending? Does it make you feel better?” A complicated mix of emotions welled up inside me. Even I felt like I’d gone too far with what I said just now. Judging by Aiden’s reaction, those words probably hurt him. “You think this is my fault?” I sighed and asked Jackson. He looked at me and shook his head. “I really don’t know. But the way you two act, it’s obvious you still have feelings for each other. So if you like each other, why can’t you just be together?” I couldn’t help but laugh. “Jackson, have you ever been in love?” He paused for a bit, then slowly said, “Yeah, back in my freshman year.” “I was only eighteen then. I liked a girl in our class who wasn’t particularly pretty. She was so ordinary you wouldn’t notice her in a crowd.” “But this girl—she handed over all the money she had when I got cornered by a bunch of punks who wanted cash, then grabbed me and ran. After that, I started paying more attention to her. I began buying her water, talking to her more. I found out that even though she wasn’t exactly beautiful, she had this special vibe. She always gave me great advice.” Hearing that, I couldn’t help asking, “So what happened? Did you two end up together?” Jackson let out a self-deprecating laugh. “No.” “But you two were so close. Why didn’t you get together in the end?” I asked, confused. He took a deep breath. “Later on, she told me she’d been in a long-distance relationship for three years. Her boyfriend was back home.” I was stunned. “And then?” “She went back. Got engaged to him.”I nodded with a sigh. Unrequited love. No wonder he’d never mentioned this before. “I’m not telling you this just for the story,” he said. “I’m telling you because I want you to understand—when you meet the right person at the right time, don’t let it slip away. You’re not like me. I was doomed from the start.” As he spoke, there was a glimmer of something wet in his eyes. “Alright. Don’t be sad. The Moon Goddess will guide you to your destined mate,” I said. Jackson gave a bitter smile. “Raelyn, I don’t think I’ll ever meet anyone better than her in this lifetime.” Watching him so caught in his sadness, I didn’t know how to comfort him. I could only sigh. “So that’s why you turned yourself into such a playboy? I thought that was just your nature.” “Not really. I haven’t actually liked any of those women. It’s just how I numb myself,” he said with a wry smile. “But let’s not talk about that. Weren’t you here for medicine? I’ll take you.” I nodded and followed Jackson down to the underground pharmacy to get the medicine for Adam. Then I drove back to the hospital. Just as I reached the entrance, I saw a werewolf walking toward me like he’d been waiting. “Ms. Raelyn, hello. I wanted to thank you earlier, but you left in such a hurry. Now we run into each other again—it must be fate. Is there anything you want? I’d be happy to make it happen.” It took me a second to recognize him. He was the father of the little girl I’d saved earlier. I chuckled. “I thought you were going to hand me a check.” He laughed and shook his head. “No way. A woman as refined as you, Ms. Raelyn, couldn’t possibly care about money.” I shook my head too. “I don’t really need anything right now. But if you really want to do something, then just owe me a favor.” He nodded, then seemed to remember something. With a slightly embarrassed look, he asked, “Would you like to visit Luoluo? She’s been asking to thank the big sister who saved her ever since she found out.” I thought of that adorable little face and nodded. I followed the man into a VIP ward. The little girl was sipping soup. When she saw me, her eyes lit up like stars. She was a beautiful child, with delicate features and skin as smooth as jade. It was easy to see she’d grow up to be a stunning young woman. “Pretty lady, were you the one who saved me?” I nodded. “I was.” “Pretty lady, what’s your name?” I smiled and ruffled her hair. “I’m Raelyn.” “I’m Nora. Pretty lady, you’re so pretty and your voice is really pretty too. I want you to feed me soup.” The man suddenly looked awkward. “She’s your lifesaver. You can’t ask your lifesaver to feed you soup. Be good, let Mommy feed you.” “No, no! I only want pretty lady to feed me. I won’t eat anyone else’s soup but hers!”
