Alpha Raelyn: The Alpha They Never Saw Coming

Chapter 137 The New Designer

I followed that intense gaze. Standing not far from the stage was Aiden, his entire body radiating cold fury as he locked eyes with mine. Those sharp, handsome wolf eyes burned with unmistakable rage. When did Aiden get here? The second our eyes met, he curled his lips into a cold smirk, lowered his head, and turned to disappear into the crowd. Suddenly, I felt incredibly irritated. Damn it. Why did it feel like I’d just been caught cheating? I got off the stage, instinctively wanting to go after him and explain. But I stopped myself. What was there to explain? Tell him I didn’t know what was going to happen? That I wanted to refuse, but Adam was too quick? That I didn’t want to ruin Adam’s concert? None of those excuses sounded convincing. The concert finally ended. I returned to the Midnight Pack estate and ran into Aiden in the living room. He was sitting on the couch, working on his laptop. When he heard me come in, he didn’t even flinch. It was like he didn’t see me at all. I knew we couldn’t just keep this cold war going, so I tried to break the ice with a different topic. "You went to the concert today?" Aiden answered with a noncommittal "Mm," not even looking up. "Are you mad?" I asked carefully. He looked up and let out a cold laugh. "Why would it matter to you if I’m mad? Aren’t you and Adam getting along just fine?" That comment was ice-cold. Whatever guilt I had instantly went up in flames. I shot back, "There’s nothing between me and Adam. Can you not talk nonsense?""Oh? So what I saw wasn’t real?" He was clearly jealous about that kiss. I had no comeback for that. "It was just part of the concert. I didn’t have a choice..." I said helplessly. "Didn’t have a choice? You looked like you were enjoying it." His words made my own expression freeze. "Aiden, you’re being ridiculous. You’re not usually like this." Aiden was stunned for a second, then shut his laptop and stood up. "You’re right. I crossed the line. I shouldn’t be getting involved in your business." And just like that, he turned and walked away. I stared at his back, and a wave of frustration welled up in my chest. From that night on, Aiden and I entered a cold war that lasted two full weeks. Every day after, we kept our distance. No words. Not even eye contact. Naturally, everyone at Midnight Pack noticed. Even the company employees could feel the tension between us. Whenever we were in the same room, the atmosphere dropped to freezing. Nobody dared raise their voice. Soon it was Christmas Eve. During a company meeting, Aiden suggested designing a pair of couple’s rings to launch during the holiday season. A junior employee suddenly stood up. "Mr. Aiden, can I take on this project?" She was a new designer named Yvonne, always quiet and unremarkable—so it was surprising to see her volunteer to lead the project. Aiden paused. "You think you can handle it?" Yvonne smiled. "Of course. Raelyn’s project proposal was so well done when she arrived—I just want to give it a try too." Then she turned to me with a polite smile. "Raelyn, I hope I’m not stealing your thunder by volunteering for this?" The way she said it sounded a little fake, but I didn’t feel like picking a fight. I shrugged. "I don’t have any thunder to steal. Do whatever you want."Someone nearby let out a snort. "Raelyn’s the world-famous designer Angie. Who do you think you are?" Yvonne lowered her gaze. "I know I’m not as talented as Raelyn. But... I just want to make something of myself. And the company said it would give new hires a chance. I just want to contribute a little." Aiden frowned and looked sharply at the person who’d just mocked her. "Is that how you treat newcomers?" The employee flinched at his glare and immediately shut up. I frowned too. So Aiden was really rooting for this Yvonne girl? "Alright then. This project will go to Yvonne. If you need help with anything, you can come to me directly. If there’s nothing else, we’re done here."
