The Rise of the Rejected Luna

Chapter 336

Bellamy and her husband ran into Nikolai's room and gasped when they found him awake on the bed. When Na-ri had called and told them about it, they couldn't believe. But finally setting their eyes on him... "My dear son..." She whimpered as she went closer, holding his hand. "Good Lord! You're awake." Nikolai was still lying on the bed, and his face etched with concern when his parents came in alone. "Nik, how're you feeling?" Mr. Vincent asked, going to stand at the edge of the bed. Nikolai's eyes were fixed on the door, and when he didn't see who he was expecting, he looked at his parents. "Where's she? Why isn't she here?" He asked feebly. Bellamy shared a glance with Na-ri. Na-ri had also told them over the phone that he was asking for Adira.Wearing a smile, Bellamy caresssed his hand. "Son, you just woke up after a long time. I believe you need as much rest as you can get. Stop worrying about anyone and just..." "Where's she?!" He half-yelled. It was now becoming obvious that something was wrong with her, and they were hiding it from him. He shrugged Bellamy's hand away from his. "I don't want to do anything else other than know where Adira is. What happened?" As he asked, his heart beat rapidly in his chest. The last thing he wanted was to hear something bad had happened to her. He'd never forgive himself for it. Bellamy sighed. She realized it'd be pointless lying to him. "We think Adira killed your grandfather." Mr. Vincent answered before Bellamy could. It was releasing two bombs st once to Nikolai. His head spun with the information, he was blank for a few seconds. "G... Grandpa is dead?" He asked with a heavy lump in his throat. Vincent's eyes dropped sadly, thinking of his father. "Yes. He died a week ago, and from what happened, we have every reason to believe Adira was behind it. She pushed him off the stairs." "Seriously?" Nikolai scoffed, his eyes widening in shock. He made to sit up, and his mother assisted him. Sitting up seemed to be a trouble for him as he took a deep breath when he finally did. "What're you saying, dad?" He asked. "How can you even think Adira killed him? What reason could she possibly have?" "Well, take a look at you, Nik. She made you into this. That lady might have some ulterior motives in this family." Bellamy grumbled. "Adira was the only one found with my father when he fell. That's the reason we believe she's the killer." Mr. Vincent explained. "Well, that's nonsense! Adira can be anything, but she can never a murderer! What is wrong with you?!" His heart rose and fell heavily. If he were strong enough, he'd have been throwing things around already. How could they even think Adira was a killer? Were they sick in the head? He closed his eyes and pulled a deep breath. "Where's she? I need to see her this hour." He said with his eyes closed. He was apparently trying to calm his nerves. "Y...You can't. She's locked up and..." "I said I need to see her!" He roared, making his eyes wide with fury. "Take me to wherever the hell she is! How dare you do this to her?!" Guilt washed over his parents, seeing their son's reaction. When they didn't respond, Nikolai started leaving the bed himself. "No, no. Nikolai, you can't..." His mother tried to stop him. "Let me go! Get your hands off me!" He pushed her off. "Alright, fine, find. We'll take you to her." Vincent surrendered, realizing there was nothing they could do to stop him. .... They got to the station, a lot of people throwing suspicious looks at Nikolai because of the cannular and bandages he had all over. They even had to take a doctor with them, just incase. As Nikolai sat in the waiting room, waiting for Adira, he kept picturing what she must've passed through in his absence. Nobody could be there for her, not even his damn family! He remembered the day she had come visiting and had spoken to him, she must have thought he couldn't hear her. But that day, he heard everything, and heard the part of her being pregnant for him.She was pregnant. How could they have locked up in that condition? With his child? Just how? He'd failed her. It was all his fault. He should've believed her from the onset. That way, he'd have been around to save her from this. He heard footsteps and lifted his head to see her approaching. His heart cut in its place, his feet became cold. She looked miserable, sick. He watched as tears rolled down her eyes, probably from the shock of seeing him. "Nikolai?" She called faintly, her voice sounding like it might collapse at any moment. He rose slowly from his seat, the air around them tensed. He could hardly recognize his Adira. This place had done so much harm to her. Adira's head was spinning from the sight before her. When she'd been told she had a visitor, her mind was blanked. She expected anyone, but never Nikolai. Her Nikolai was awake? She couldn't control the tears that coursed down her cheeks. Looking at him, it was obvious he was just regaining consciousness. He was still in his patient's robe, and had a cannular amd some bandages on him. Why in God's name was he there in that condition? "Nikolai?" She called again, her heart breaking with the sound of it. It was unbelievable. She watched him rise from his seat and approach her. And the moment he was close enough, she threw her hands around him. "Nik!" She sobbed, burying her face in his chest. Her body racked with uncontrollable sobs, her tears wet his cloth. Nikolai wrapped his hand around her waist, pulling her closer. He felt more pain than excitement. Oh! He never should've left her. Never."I'm so sorry." His voice wavered as he spoke. "I'm so sorry, Adira." ****†**** "You'll be fine, okay?" Joyce said softly to Ophelia as she escorted her into the therapist's office. Ophelia seemed so scared and her mother's hand so tight like she didn't want her to go away. They walked into the office and found the young woman, scribbling on some files. She paused and looked up at them. "Good evening, Miss Nasya." Joyce greeted with a smile. "Good evening, ma'am. I'm glad you two could make it." Nasya watched as the mother struggled to convince her daughter that it was fine staying there alone. When she finally did, she left the room, giving them the privacy they needed. Nasya stood up, walked away from her table and took the seat closest to Ophelia."Ophelia, how're you today?" Nasya asked with a warm smile. Ophelia kept her head down, trying to keep her calm. Over the days, she had become very scared and developed huge trust issues. She was losing her mind. "Consider me your friend, Ophelia." Joyce placed a hand - gently - on her thighs. "You see, I don't know much about you, but I don't have many friends. I'd be so happy if we could become one." For the first time, Ophelia lifted her gaze to meet hers. That was progress for Nasya. "Okay, now tell me all that's been bothering you. Who and what. Feel free, Ophelia, and tell me everything." And that was it. Ophelia couldn't hold it in anymore. She broke into severe thoughts and started talking."He used me." She whimpered, tears falling to her shirt. "For over ten years, he had me locked up and used. He threatened me every day of my life, made me undergo mental torture just so I'd think Nikolai was the one that truly hurt me. He messed up my head, my mind, my body, my..." Her words cut off as sobs took over. Nasya stood up and pulled her into a hug. Since she was standing, Ophelia's head rested on her tummy. "I never wanted to do it." She wept. "I never wanted to betray Nikolai, but I was made to believe he truly hurt me. I... I suffered greatly for those ten years. And when I finally returned, I thought it'd all be over. But it only got worst. Memories in my head keep conflicting, I keep having those nightmares and I... I... I just want to be free." "Sssh. It's okay now, dearest. It's okay." Nasya hushed.
