The Rise of the Rejected Luna

Chapter 335

Adira found it difficult believing Bellamy's words. Was she for real? How could this woman have the guts to say this to her face? She was hurt, she wouldn't deny; hurt that Nikolai had been processing their divorce. Of course, he told her about it. But now, it was just too difficult to believe. She sniffed as an uncontrolled tear dropped to her cheek. Looking up at Bellamy, she found no emotions on the woman's face. When did the woman change so much? She used to love her a lot. She looked at the paper again before pushing it away, towards Bellamy. "I'm not signing it." She said in a hardened tone. Bellamy's brows furrowed in surprise. She never expected that rigidity from Adira. "Are you being serious?" She scoffed. "Do you have any idea what I'm offering you? If you agree to sign these documents, I'll make sure we drop the charges against you and you can be out of jail. You'll be free." The temptation of the offer lingered on Adira's mind. Being in here for the past one week had not been easy on her, and her baby. At that point, she'd do anything to leave, but not divorcing Nikolai. Her eyes were sore as she crossed her arms across her chest and stared coldly at Bellamy. "You used to be my favorite person in the house." Her words were laced with sadness. "And I know you used to love me too. I don't know what changed about you, but I haven't changed. I don't care if Nikolai prepared those divorce papers himself, but there is no way on earth I'm signing them while he's battling for his life over there." Silence followed her words for almost a minute. The shocked look in Bellamy's eyes melted into disappointment. "This is meaningless." The lawyer said. "One way or the other, you'll still need to sign this. Even if Nikolai regains consciousness...." "Then, I'll wait for him." Adira cut him off, ignoring the deep hurt in her heart. "It doesn't matter how long I have to wait, but I'm not signing this in his absence. When he regains consciousness and tells me to my face that he wants me out, I'll sign the papers without batting a lid." Bellamy's hands curled into fists. "You'll regret this, Adira. This was the only chance you had at freedom. You'll regret this." Angrily, she picked up her bag and left. The lawyer picked up the papers and left as well. Adira was taken back to her cell and there she wept profusely, concluding her life was coming to an end. ****†****† Vesper returned home during mid-day, a smile on his face. He'd been having series of meetings since the dawn of day, and done with the last one, he decided to retire home for some rest. Running the company was definitely not easy, but he liked it; liked the stress. Opening the door to his living room, he was surprised to find Kalina on his couch. But recalling she was still with a spare key calmed him a little. A movie was being played, and she crossed her arms while watching it. Displeasure shadowed his face. "What're you doing here?" He asked with a frown, walking into the room. Kalina scoffed as she looked away from the TV and at him. "Am I prohibited from coming here now?" Vesper sighed as he dropped his briefcase on the couch. He remained standing. "I'm not cool with you coming over without informing me, Kal. I need my spare key back." He opened and extended his hand towards her. Kalina's eyes widened in shock. Her face was already turning red as she sprang to her feet. "Why? Are you scared I'll barge in on you and someone?""Listen, I'm not in for your worthless nags. Just give me my spare key and let me go upstairs for some rest." He kept his hand open. Kalina's cheeks reddened with embarrassment. "What is wrong with you, Baxter?" She shook her head. "You used to be good to me when I was useful. Your became head of your father's company, and all of a sudden, I'm useless?" "Hold on, did you say useful?" Vesper laughed sinisterly. "When were you ever useful to me, Kalina? Its true your approached me with the enticing offer of helping me back on my feet, but what did you really do? What ideas or plans did you contribute to my life? Nothing! I'm at the top today because of natural circumstances. You did absolutely nothing!" A sharp pain stung at Kalina's heart. His words were hurtfully unbelievable. "R... Really?" She swallowed hard. "You.. You really think that way?" "Yes. And I believe it's the truth. Listen, as a matter of fact, I think I'm tired. Don't you think this... relationship has been a terrible mistake from the start? I need my space now, okay? So, why don't you just go away and find someone else to help?" The way he mocked her broke her heart into unfixable pieces. A tear slipped down her eye. "Vesper? How can you..." "It's over." He told her without batting a lid. His face was completely void of emotions. Sympathy. "Now, drop my keys and leave before I'm done from the room." With that said, he took the stairs without sparing her a backward glance. Kalina fell down to the floor in tears, clutching at her chest. Was this a dream? Or did Vesper really break up with her? ****†****†****†****† When he finished bathing and changed into something simple, he returned to the living room and was pleased when he didn't find Kalina there anymore. His spare key was also on the table. A smile danced across his face. Finally. He let out a deep relieved breath as he plonked himself on the couch and grabbed the tv remote. His life was finally becoming perfect. For a man like himself, he needed a beautiful and decent lady. Kalina must have been so dumb to think he'd marry her in the end. A lady he had slept with on the first night they met? Vesper scoffed at the thought. There was no way on earth he was getting married to a whore. He found an interesting movie to watch and dropped the remote beside him, but a call interrupted him. Glancing at the screen, he discovered it was his mother. "Hello, mum?" "Vesper. How're you?" "Yeah, I'm fine." "Good. You need to come over to the house immediately. Your grandfather's lawyer is here with his will. So, we all need to be here before he reads it out." Vesper's eyes expanded in astonishment. His blood ran cold and his grip around his phone loosened, making the phone almost slip to the floor. No, it couldn't be it. "Wh... What're you talking about?" His voice shook as he asked. "G... Grandfather had a will?!" "Of course. Why would you think a man like him wouldn't have a will?" Bellamy sounded surprised. "But..." Vesper lodged the words in his throat. He couldn't go ahead to tell her what he'd overheard. But how was it possible? .... His entire body shook violently as he scurried out of the house and drove to the family's mansion. His parents, Finn, and the lawyer were already present, awaiting his arrival. He's never been so nervous his entire life. The whole time, he had been happy, thinking his grandfather died without a will. He had been happy thinking his life was finally going to be perfect. Taking his seat, the lawyer began talking. "Mr. Thatcher actually wrote this will seven years ago." He began, the files in his hand. "But before he died, he'd asked me to rewrite the will because he felt he had been too partial with the previous will. He believed the previous will favoured his favorite more than the others. Hence, he wanted to make amends. I was done drafting the will, but unfortunately, he died a day before the day he was meant to stamp it. For that, we'll be making use of his previous will." Vesper was profusely sweating, despite the air conditioner being on. His heart drummed heavily, he couldn't breath The lawyer opened the file and began reading through it. "From Mr. Thatcher's last will on 7th October, 2015, seventy percent of his assets and company shares were willed to Nikolai Kensington."****†****†****† Na-ri sat in front of Nikolai's bed and had her head lowered on the edge. She was catching a quick nap when suddenly, she felt slight movement on the bed. Pushing her eyes open, she gasped loudly when she found Nikolai regaining consciousness. Her head spun at once. "Nik... Nikolai?!!" Her eyes widened brightly as she jumped to her feet. Her heart drummed heavily against her ribcage, she could barely even breath. Anxiety like never before washed over her. "Nikolai! Can you hear me?!" She touched his arm. He opened his eyes slowly and looked at her. A grateful tear dropped to her cheek. "Oh, my God!" She whimpered. "Y... You're awake." Another tear slid down her cheek, but her heart shattered into myriad fragments when he asked his first question."Adira. Where's Adira?" His voice was weak.
