The Rise of the Rejected Luna

Chapter 333

Lyra ran into her father's house and fell onto the couch immediately, crying her eyes out. Jared was there as well, but neither of them said a word to Lyra as she wept profusely. "All I needed was one more day." She whimpered, her face covered in her palms. "The will was to be ready today, and he'd have signed it already. My life would've been all better by now." Jagger had a glass of wine with him, and he sipped from time to time, saying nothing to his hurting daughter. "Lyra, come on, it's enough." Jared rolled her eyes, tired of her whinging already. "I'm also angry that the plan was ruined at the last minute, but you shouldn't kill yourself over it. With the rate at which you've been crying, you might actually fall sick." Lyra lifted her face from her palms to look at him."You think I'm worried about being sick right now? Do you have any idea what I've planned? How much that money was supposed to help me?" She pointed a hand to her chest. "My life is ruined, Jared! But of course, you might not understand it since your own mission was successful." "Stop this drama, will you?" Jared scoffed. "If you need money, I can give you some. Quit acting like you're completely broke." Lyra's eyes rimmed red. She returned her face to her palms and continued crying. Shs didn't want to rely on anybody again, she was tired of being dependent. The money from Mr. Thatcher was supposed to change her life forever. "I'll destroy whoever did this." She said after a while, raising her face from her palms again. "If it was indeed, Adira, I'll make her life miserable on earth. Being locked up will never be enough." "I don't understand. Why on earth is Adira your suspect?" Jared asked inquisitively. It came as a shock to him.Lyra dabbed some of the tears from her eyes. "Someone pushed him off the stairs, and Adira was the first witness. It's absurd that she saw him falling off but didn't see who pushed him. She obviously had something to do with." "Can you even listen to yourself? You talking about the same Adira you've known? Why on earth would she want the old man dead? Does she even look like a killer to you?" Lyra's lips curled into a smirk. "Taka a look at yourself. Few years ago, if someone had told you you'd kill a man and take over his properties, would you have believed?" Jared rose from his seat at once, glaring daggers her way. "Have you lost your mind?" He advanced towards her with a threatening look. Lyra didn't flinch. He got close enough and clamped his hand around her neck, making her gasp. Her eyes grew wider and she scratched her nails on him, frantically, but he didn't let her go. "I didn't have a choice, bitch." He growled at her. "I wasn't even the one that killed him, but father. But you, you've been so eager to do this from the onset. You're just as evil as you've always wanted to be, so never compare your trashy self to me." He finally let her go, pushing her roughly. She coughed and gasped for air, her hands holding her neck. Shooting her a glare, he walked away, in fury. And as Lyra struggled to catch her breath, she wondered why her father didn't say a word. ****†****†****† Jared got to know about Adira being locked up later on, and it filled him with so much anger. He drove quickly to the station and requested to see her. He waited restlessly in the visitor room, wondering how anyone would even think of her as a murderer. Weren't they so dumb? After a while, Adira was brought out to him, and Jared's heart shattered in his chest when he saw how she looked. She looked really sick and dehydrated, he couldn't believe it. "My goodness." He muttered under his breath as she took the seat before him, a table dividing both of them. Adira had her hands wrapped around her body and was shaking from cold. Her head ached terribly, sharp pains kept shooting at her abdomen. She wasn't used to being in a station, and considering her condition, it was causing more harm to her. "Are...Are you okay?" Jared's voice cracked a little as he spoke, trying to pull himself together. "Do I look fine?" She chuckled painfully, her hands still hugging herself. Jared palmed his face and drew a long breath. This wasn't good, he needed to get her out of there. "Why would they do this to you?" He asked softly. "You're no killer, why can't they see it?" Adira simply shrugged. She was too tired to grumble. "Have... Have you eaten?" He asked. "Not really. Didn't like the meal they served. If you could get me some pizza and a pineapple flavoured drink, that'll go a long way." Jared brushed his fingers into his hair. He'd never been that frustrated in a long time. Something was wrong, someone was definitely doing this on purpose to punish Adira. Else, why would anyone think she was a killer?
