The Rise of the Rejected Luna

Chapter 332

Adira let out a terrifying scream immediately, her eyes nearly bulging out of her sockets. The bag she held slipped to the floor, and her heart pounded repeatedly against her ribcage. She was too frightened to move and simply watched as blood gushed from his head. It didn't take long before people rushed out, drawn by her scream. First,it was Finn and his wife, followed by Vesper and Kalina. They all expressed great shock at the sight in front of them. "Grandpa!" Finn and Vesper ran to his unconscious body. His wheelchair had fallen along with him and was beside his body on the floor. From every indication, someone pushed him. Finn and Vesper were trying to get him from the floor when Bellamy came out. She gasped at the sight she found. "What the hell happened here? What happened to him?!" Her eyes were already sore.Nobody could say anything and instead, focused on getting the old man from the floor. Adira's heart raced heavily. She watched with bated breath as Finn and Vesper succeeded in getting him up and dragged him out. Everyone rushed out as well. He was taken into a car and without hesitation, they drove out of the house. *** He was taken to the same hospital Nikolai was in. They all had their hearts in their throats as they paced restlessly in the reception, waiting for the doctor's feedback. Adira was the most traumatized. She had watched the whole thing from the start, and memories of how the old man had fallen off wouldn't leave her head, no matter how hard she tried. It was devastating. But she was more concerned about who would do a thing like that. Mr. Thatcher was very sick and was close to his demise, what reason would someone possibly have for ending him sooner? Definitely, someone pushed him off the stairs. And there were a lot of people at home too, except for Nikolai, Mr. Vincent and Lyra. Lyra would have been her number one suspect if only she was home. This made Adira more confused. Not long after, Lyra came running in. She had been called some minutes ago and informed of the situation. She panted heavily as she ran in. "Where is he? Where is my husband?" She asked frantically, acting like she was losing her mind. Her eyes looked heavy like she had previously been crying before reaching there. "You should calm down, the doctors are working on him." Finn answered tiredly. Lyra snaked her fingers into her hair and moved tho and fro. "God, please, please. He can't die. He can't." She mumbled fearfully, under her breath."But, what exactly happened?" Mr. Vincent asked, his features contorted in confusion. He had gotten there some minutes ago and had his hand wrapped around his wife who looked pale. Adira knew the question was for her. "I... I went home to grab a few stuff, then I heard a sound from the staircase and rushed over to see Mr. Thatcher falling off. I didn't see who pushed him, I just saw him rolling off." She explained with her eyes on the floor. Thinking about it was getting her more traumatized. Their attention was immediately drawn to the doctor coming out of the room, his face covered with sweat. Everyone present rushed towards him, curious questions on their faces. "What's going on? How's he?" Mr. Vincent asked. The doctor's fact didn't look good or encouraging. The doctor took off his mask and dallied a little before shaking his head. "I'm sorry..." He said feebly. "We tried all we could, but his system was too weak to withstand the pain. We lost him." "No!!!" Lyra let out a loud screech, one that was almost defeaning. "It can't be! It can't be! Please!!" She crashed to the floor, wailing uncontrollably. The air became thick with sadness immediately as even Mrs. Bellamy bursted into tears. Adira grazed her fingers over her mouth, completely shocked. He didn't make it! Her heart began beating at a very high pace, she feared she might collapse. It was too terrifying for her, especially with the fact that she witnessed it. Lyra was still on the floor, crying and screaming uncontrollably. Adira had never see her that way before, not even when they were friends from college. There's never been a time she cried that much at the loss of something, or someone. It began to make her wonder if Lyra had truly loved that man. "Please! Please! You have to bring him back! Please! It can't be!" She beat herself up. Na-ri tried consoling her, but it was futile as Lyra was beyond consolation. ****†****†****† The news went round like wildfire - the Founder of The Yonder Dynamics was dead. And of course, it was accompanied with rumours that he was killed by someone within. It had taken a lot to get Lyra out of the hospital, but she never stopped crying. The entire family gathered home afterward, including Adira who wished she didn't have to be there. They were all in the living room, the air thick with pain and sorrow. Lyra had stopped wailing, but her eyes were extremely heavy and rimmed with so much redness. She looked dangerous at that moment. "Who would do a crazy thing like this?" Na-ri asked, shaking her head. "Mr. Thatcher was already close to his demise. Why not let him die a peaceful death?" The room fell silent, but Adira became uncomfortable when she noticed Bellamy's puffy eyes on her. "Did you do it?" She asked, her voice coming out low and hurt.. Adira glanced sideways and furrowed her brows. Was the question being directed at her? "Tell us the truth, Adira. You were there when he fell. Were you just there or it was actually you who pushed him?" "M...Mum! What're you talking about?" Adira asked with a scoff, wondering if the woman had lost her mind. How can she even harbour such thoughts? "Do you sincerely have no idea what I'm talking about?" Bellamy rose to her feet. "How does it make any sense that you had seen him falling off the stairs, but didn't see who pushed him? Make it make sense.""But I'm not lying!" Adira nearly rose her voice. "Wh... What reason would I possibly have to kill him? I... I barely even talk to him." "Well, neither of us here have a reason to kill him." Bellamy added. "Perhaps, you're just here to cause havoc. Take a look around, my son is at the hospital right now, fighting for his life. Who's fault is that, huh? Yours! You've brought nothing but ruin to this family." Adira's lips hung open in disbelief. Even if anyone were to suspect her, she'd never expect it to be Bellamy. Bellamy was someone she thought would always get her back. So, what was happening? "Was it because of me?" Lyra chipped in, her voice coming out low. "From the first day you saw me, you hated the fact that I was his wife. Did you do this just to... spite me?" "Why on earth would I do that? The old man was dying anyway. Why would I kill him to spite you?" Adira asked, bewildered. Something wasn't right. Why was she being accused?"Are you sure?" Vesper added. "All fingers are pointing at you, Adira. It's strange that you saw him falling off, but didn't see who pushed him. Are you certain you have no idea?" "This is madness!" Adira sprang to her feet. "I don't know where this is coming from, but it's insane to think I'd do a thing like this. I'm as confused as you all are, so cut me some slack!" Her chest heaved with deep breaths, her eyes mirrored both tears and disgust. Picking her bag beside her, she stormed out of the house. **** Adira had nowhere else to go aside the hospital. Getting to Nikolai's room, she couldn't even sit and just paced tho and fro. She paused at some point and held his hand, squeezing it tight. "Nikolai, I might need you to wake up sooner. I'm... I'm scared." Her voice cracked. She placed her hand on her chest, feeling how fast it beat. She didn't know why she felt something bad was about to happen, something really bad. She finally took a seat beside the bed, leaning her head on Nikolai's hand with her eyes closed. It didn't take long before she heard the door go open and snapped her head up to have a look. Her eyes widened in shock when she found three policemen walking into the room. She sprang to her feet immediately. "Good evening, Mrs. Adira." One of them greeted, taking out his ID and showing it to her face. Adira couldn't catch her next breath. "We have a warrant here for your arrest, based on murder charges. You'll need to come with us, please."
