Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog
This stubborn idiot! All he ever thinks about is shadow arts and revenge! Wouldn't it be nice to hold a pretty woman in your arms for once? If Matthew had been able to beat Jarvis, he honestly would've loved to smash his head open. Of course, Matthew only dared to think that to himself. Out loud, he started flattering Jarvis. "Jarvis, you're amazing! You can resist beauty like it's nothing. Not many men could do that! I really admire—" When their voices and footsteps finally disappeared, Selina and Guinevere let out long, shaky breaths. Selene also let out a long breath and pulled a key from her pocket to unlock their chains. Selina massaged her stiff ankles. "Since the gang's gone, what are you going to do now?" Selene thought for a moment, then shook her head. "No idea. I'll just take things one step at a time." Guinevere looked her up and down, puzzled. "Your gang got wiped out, and you don't look sad at all?" Selene gave a bitter smile. "You think I had a good life in that gang?" Compared to the women out in the main hall, she had it a little better. But she still lived every day with her life hanging by a thread. It wasn't just flattering everyone in the gang. She also had to "serve" those ugly, filthy men whenever they wanted. That awful Fiorella did whatever she pleased and took her anger out on Selene constantly, hitting and cursing her over the smallest thing. Selene spent every day terrified. It was like living with a wild beast.Sure, her life was a bit better than some other survivors. But compared to before the apocalypse, she was still barely scraping by. Seeing Selina and Guinevere's sympathetic looks, Selene shrugged with a smile. "Don't pity me. I'm just a dandelion. I go wherever life pushes me." She had grown up moving from place to place. She'd changed rentals more times than she could count, and the same went for jobs and bosses. For Selene, the apocalypse wasn't that different from her old life. It was still just about bowing to the strong and playing along to get a meal. As long as she kept her eyes open, stayed sharp, and made the right choices, she could keep going. Guinevere sighed. "We're all the same. Nothing's guaranteed anymore." She used to be a student at a top university, and now she was fighting over bread like a homeless person. Selina bowed to Selene. "Thank you for helping us today." Selene waved her off. "Don't mention it." Between the three of them, it wasn't even clear who saved whom. Without these two beauties, she probably would've died next to Fiorella. The three stopped talking. When they stepped out of the room, every woman in the hall stared at them. They had heard that everyone upstairs was dead, but none of them dared leave. They'd been traumatized for too long. They were terrified it was some kind of obedience test. You only had one life—they weren't risking it. Everyone waited for Selene. Only when they saw her freeing the prisoners did they finally relax. They gathered behind her, getting ready to leave together. With everything happening so fast, no one even questioned how those two old women turned into young girls. All they watched were the steps of the three walking ahead. The moment the trio stepped out of the basement, the women burst out after them, unable to hold back their excitement. The first floor was full of blood and bodies. None of the women looked afraid. Instead, they stomped across the corpses in excitement. After all, the people lying there were the ones who had terrified them, tortured them, and made their lives hell. Seeing them dead felt like a holiday. "Freedom! I'm finally free!" "Hahaha! Those monsters are dead! All dead!" "Thank god, we're saved..." They rushed outside, not even caring about the freezing wind. Most of them were locals from Greendale. Now that they'd escaped the Greendale Gang, they just wanted to run home. But with windchills dropping to around –70°F, the thinly dressed women had no choice but to run back inside. Selene reminded them to grab the gang members' clothes and blankets upstairs. Only then did they head out again. Guinevere looked at all the bodies. "That couple was really something." She pressed a hand to her chest, still shaken. She was lucky the girl hadn't held a grudge over their earlier argument. Selina wondered aloud, "I wonder where they went... Those two men are still looking for them. Could they be in danger?"Guinevere sighed. "They're strong. They handled all these people. There's no way they'd lose to those two. Instead of worrying about them, you should think about what's going on with Anthony."
