Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog
After absorbing this special emerald, Natalie noticed that the bracelet on her wrist instantly gained a large amount of green color. Watching this change, she was shocked. She'd just collected so many emeralds, and her bracelet had only gained two small bits of green. Now just from absorbing this one piece, it was equivalent to all those she'd just collected? The quality was clearly similar, and size-wise, it was far smaller than that emerald screen. Cassian thought for a moment and explained, "Perhaps this emerald really does have very high energy. "Otherwise Fiorella wouldn't have specifically hidden it here." Whatever the reason, it was a good thing anyway. Natalie checked the time. It was just a few minutes before 4 p.m. During this extreme cold period, daylight was short, and it was already dark outside. "Let's hurry and enter the storage space. We need to test how much the duration limit has increased." Cassian nodded, then reminded her, "Let's find a safe place to enter." This warehouse had quite a lot of stuff and could easily attract thieves. They might get ejected from the storage space at any moment, so it was better to find a quiet and safe location. Natalie thought for a moment. "Let's go to Fiorella's place." That house had an underground tunnel. They could enter the storage space from inside the tunnel, so even if they were suddenly ejected, they'd be transported underground—very safe. Natalie first brought the three little ones into the storage space, then returned with Cassian to Fiorella's two-story building.... At this moment, Jarvis and Matthew finally reached the vicinity. One more turn and they'd be in the alley. Jarvis's eyes glowed with excitement. "This is it! Right here! Right here!" Matthew followed close behind him, equally excited. Thank God! He could finally rest. They'd found both his brother and the killer, so Jarvis wouldn't drag him around running all over the place anymore, right? Between the Frostfall temperatures, the frantic travel, and getting injured in a car accident, this entire day had been pushing the limits of human endurance. Once they found the killer, Jarvis would handle the revenge while he got some rest. After everything was done, they'd go back to that inn and have a nice hot meal. He'd seen it earlier. That Cloud Inn had tons of meat, and the kitchen equipment and fuel were all there. He was going to stuff his face until he couldn't eat anymore. Just as he was lost in these pleasant thoughts, Jarvis suddenly stopped in his tracks. Matthew couldn't stop in time and crashed straight into his back. He let out a pained groan, clutching his nose. "What the hell? You just stopped out of nowhere and I smashed right into you!" But Jarvis just stood there dumbfounded. "It's gone!" Matthew didn't understand. "What's gone?" Jarvis continued muttering to himself. "How could it be gone?" Matthew lost his patience, walked around to face him, and grabbed his shoulders. "What's going on! What's gone?" Jarvis looked bewildered. "The direction. The killer's direction is gone!"Matthew breathed a sigh of relief. "You scared me half to death. I thought something was actually wrong. If the direction's gone, isn't that exactly what we want? It means we're already near the killer. Why would we need a direction anymore?" Jarvis shook his head. "That's not how it works! "If we'd gotten close to them, the direction should show 'current location,' not disappear completely. Like when we were looking for Zyrell earlier. When we got near the camp, it showed 'current location.'" Matthew frowned. "What are you talking about? I don't get it." Jarvis remembered his earlier analogy and explained concisely. "Their signal disappeared from my tracker!" Matthew had an epiphany. "Now that makes sense!" Jarvis looked furious. "So, what do we do now?" Matthew ventured cautiously, "How about we find a spot with better signal and reboot the connection?" Jarvis was standing beside himself with frustration. "You idiot! Do you really think I'm an actual GPS device?" He shouldn't have expected anything from this moron. Matthew looked aggrieved. "But you're the one who said there was no signal." Jarvis ignored him and decided to head in the last direction that had been shown. As soon as he turned into the alley, he froze in place again. This time, Matthew had learned his lesson and didn't follow too closely. Seeing him suddenly stop, he managed to brake in time and avoided another rear-end collision. He took a few steps to the side, his tone annoyed. "Why'd you stop again? I almost crashed into..."Before he could finish his sentence, he froze in place too. The entire alley before them was filled with incredibly lifelike ice sculptures, packed densely together in a rather spectacular sight. "These..." Matthew's legs went weak. "They're all real people, aren't they?" Normal ice sculptures were translucent ice blocks that you could see through, but these had colorful cotton coats and down jackets visible inside the thick layers of ice. It was obvious they were actually living people frozen solid. Especially since every frozen face clearly showed an expression of terror.
