Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog
Matthew was terrified. "Holy crap, how did they even do this?" Jarvis snapped out of his daze and frowned as he prepared to go take a closer look. Matthew quickly grabbed him. "Are you crazy? This place is so messed up. Aren't you afraid you'll turn into a popsicle too if you walk over there?" But Jarvis ignored him, shaking him off and striding straight into the alley. He had to personally eliminate the enemy who'd killed his brother and avenge him. Even if it meant walking through hell itself, he would do it. Seeing that he couldn't stop him, Matthew gritted his teeth and followed along. Walking among these vividly expressive, lifelike frozen people was so horrifying that his hair stood on end. He was terrified that in the next second these people would come alive and strangle him, or that he'd end up just like them, frozen solid. Jarvis violently broke down the doors of all the buildings in the alley, conducting a search room by room. Besides the frozen people outside, they also encountered green corpses with bizarre causes of death, and buildings that had been blown to bits with charred bodies everywhere. What the hell had these people gone through?! Drowning, burning, poisoning? Even someone as ruthless as Jarvis couldn't help but be shocked. Brutal! Way too brutal! Matthew was about to wet himself. "Jarvis, let's get out of here! This place is too twisted! I feel like we shouldn't be messing with..." Before he could finish, Jarvis spotted something with his sharp eyes. "A feather! There's a feather over there!"Jarvis shook off Matthew excitedly and rushed toward a feather on the ground. He then pulled out the one he'd been carrying and carefully compared them. Seeing that these two feathers clearly came from the same "bird," he shouted with joy. "Found it! This is it!" Matthew clutched his chest nervously. "I know, I know! Keep your voice down!" He pointed at the bright green corpse on the ground. "Do you want to end up looking like that too?" Jarvis raised his head proudly. "No one can defeat me." Matthew frowned. "I know you're tough, but everyone here died horrible deaths. Aren't you afraid you'll be next?" Seeing Jarvis stiffen his neck with an obviously defiant look, he quickly continued persuading. "Doesn't your country have that famous saying? 'Move in silence, keep your weapon holstered'! Can we just stay quiet, please?" Jarvis furrowed his brow. "Since when do we have a saying like that?" Matthew was unusually assertive. "I'm telling you to be quiet, so be quiet. Stop making noise!" Then he suddenly thought of something, his eyes lighting up. "Say, what if the people you're looking for are actually them?" He pointed at the bright green corpses on the ground. Jarvis shook his head decisively. "No way. The tracking technique didn't point to them." Matthew pointed toward the entrance. "Then it's that group of frozen people outside." Jarvis still shook his head. "Not them either."Matthew was very annoyed. "Then who is it? Where are they?" Jarvis used the newly obtained feather to cast the tracking technique again, then said with a confused expression, "It still shows nothing." Matthew clicked his tongue. "Could your power have malfunctioned? Or maybe the person is nearby, so that's why it's not showing up?" He thought of a good solution. "How about this? Try something different." Matthew randomly tore off a piece of fabric from the green corpse. "Here, try this!" Jarvis quickly opened his eyes and replied, "There's a direction—current location." Matthew started. "See, I told you your power was malfunc..." Halfway through his sentence, he stopped. "Wait, what did you say? It's showing a direction again?" Jarvis nodded affirmatively. "Yeah. Current location." Matthew didn't believe it and removed a belt from his waist. "Here, try this one!" Five seconds later, Jarvis opened his eyes and pointed in a direction with some confusion. "Why is it over there?" Matthew was dumbfounded. "This is incredible!" This belt was one he'd just stripped off a male corpse in the inn's lobby earlier. Since it was a name brand and his previous belt had been pretty worn out, he'd taken it and put it on himself. The direction Jarvis had just pointed to was exactly where the inn was. After hearing Matthew's explanation, Jarvis was even more confused. Since his tracking technique was working fine, why couldn't he find his enemy no matter what he tried? Matthew was also bewildered. "You can find dead people, so there's no reason living ones should disappear, right?"Then he muttered, "Could it be that you can't find them because they're alive?" Thinking of this, he reluctantly pulled out a tuft of hair and handed it over with a grimace. "Here, try this. See if you can track it." Jarvis glanced at him and seemed moved. "Matthew, I never thought someone as useless as you would actually be willing to do something for Zyrell." Matthew's mouth twitched. "Jarvis, that's not the right way to use 'useless'! And what do you mean I'm useless?"
