Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog
As for the remaining grains, drinking water, and winter clothing, she'd consider that a lifeline left for the other survivors. The second floor caught Natalie completely off guard. It was packed wall to wall with fuel. It looked like the Greendale Gang really was the top dog in this area if they could monopolize this much fuel. Thinking about it that way, Fiorella really had nothing better to do. She already had all these valuable supplies just sitting pretty, yet she still insisted on personally running scams at the inn. Well, she ran straight into a brick wall this time. Now all these goodies would fall right into Natalie's lap instead. With a wave of her hand, Natalie swept all the fuel into her storage space. These were strategic supplies now. The more, the better. After collecting the fuel, the group moved up to the third floor. There was nothing special here, just some household supplies and instant foods. Natalie gathered what she wanted and was about to leave when Cassian stopped her. "Nattie, hold on a second." She turned around to see Cassian crouched in a corner, feeling around the floor for something. He explained that he'd noticed Lucky sniffing repeatedly at the corner, so he came over to take a look. Several floor tiles here were clearly hollow underneath, but after trying several times, he found he couldn't open them. Natalie raised an eyebrow and came over. She tapped on the tiles with her hand. They were definitely hollow. If they were hollow, there had to be something fishy underneath. However, as Cassian said, these tiles weren't like the tunnel entrance they'd seen before that could be moved. They were firmly fixed in place and impossible to open. Natalie thought for a moment, then pulled out a large sledgehammer from her storage space. "When brute force meets a puzzle, brute force wins." Cassian took the sledgehammer from her. "Let me do it." After some fierce pounding, those few tiles shattered into pieces. He returned the sledgehammer to Natalie and carefully brushed aside the tile fragments to look inside. There really was a shallow hidden compartment here, containing only a round object wrapped in red cloth. Just as he was about to reach in and grab it, Natalie stopped him. "I'll do it." Although Cassian had quick reflexes, he didn't have the protection of storage space. It was safer for her to handle it. If anything unexpected happened, she could retreat into her storage space immediately. After unwrapping the red cloth, she found a large circular disc about 20 inches in diameter—made of emerald. The emerald was fine-grained with excellent quality and luster. It was definitely a high-grade piece. Natalie's eyes lit up. She hadn't expected to find another treasure right before leaving. But she didn't understand why Fiorella's room had plenty of emeralds, with this particular piece stored separately in the warehouse and hidden beneath corner tiles. Judging by how the tiles were fixed, it seemed like they never planned to retrieve it again and wouldn't come check on it regularly either.So... what was the point? Cassian beside her speculated, "Should be an energy flow setup that woman arranged." Natalie raised an eyebrow. "Energy flow setup?" Now that he mentioned it, it did seem to fit. It was in a fixed corner location, wrapped in red cloth, and the disc seemed to have some special patterns carved on it. Fiorella even knew curse magic, so arranging an energy flow setup wasn't particularly surprising. Cassian made an affirmative sound. "I've seen similar arrangements at my business partners' homes before." Although he didn't believe in these mystical things and decorated his own home entirely according to his personal taste, energy flow was still quite popular among other wealthy people in their circles. Most rich folks would specifically hire energy flow advisors to select locations and examine layouts before settling into homes or establishing new companies. They'd often arrange energy flow setups in their houses too. Energy grids, summoning rites, and spirit-gathering arrays. He'd seen and heard about quite a few. The most common setup method was placing specific objects in specific fixed locations. The emerald itself carried spiritual properties, so he'd seen many wealthy households use emerald in their energy flow arrangements. Fiorella had even placed a fortune geode at the entrance of that two-story building where she lived, so she probably believed in this stuff quite a bit. Natalie held up the large emerald disc, examining it carefully. Etched into its surface were two formidable beasts. They possessed the powerful, striped bodies of tigers, but their heads and long, sinuous tails were those of great serpents, crowned with a pair of sharp, proud horns. "What are these? Some kind of mythical creatures?"Cassian leaned forward to look and shook his head. "More like holy chimera." "Holy chimera?" Natalie looked more carefully. "I guess it really is. I've only seen holy chimera figurines before, never saw them carved as flat patterns." After a pause, she understood. "So this is a fortune setup, right?" Legend had it that holy chimera had mouths but no rear-end, could swallow all things without expelling them, consuming riches from all directions—taking in but never releasing. Because of this, they were regarded as divine beasts that attracted and gathered treasure. This emerald disc had two of them carved on it. One had a single horn on its head, the other had double horns. They should be a male and female pair of holy chimera. Fiorella's setup didn't seem to work. All the valuable goods had ended up in Natalie's pockets instead. Her storage space didn't care whether they were holy chimera or serpent. As long as it was real emerald, it would swallow everything without hesitation.
