Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog
Matthew let out a long breath, hurried over, and asked, "Jarvis, are you alright?" He didn't answer. He bent down and started doing what he always did. He pulled his throwing darts out one at a time, wiping them clean and sliding them back into place on his body. Matthew rushed over to help. When they were done, the two headed toward the ancient city again. Following the direction given by Jarvis' tracking technique, they soon found Cloud Inn. Earlier, Natalie and Cassian had chased after Fiorella in such a hurry that they didn't even bother closing the door. The two men stopped in front of the wide-open entrance, their faces turning grim. In freezing weather, leaving a door open like that meant only one thing—no one was inside anymore. It seemed like they'd run here for nothing. Sure enough, after checking every room, they didn't see a single person. Matthew, worn out from running around all day, dropped into a chair and gasped for air. "Jarvis, your tracking technique has a terrible signal! Why the lag? They already left, but it still led us here!" Jarvis frowned. "Dumbass! What signal? You think this is a GPS?" Matthew pouted. If it wasn't GPS, then what was it? Jarvis was like a human GPS—just not a very good one. He slumped back in the chair, chewing on dried meat he'd found in the inn's kitchen. Jarvis ignored everything else and continued performing his tracking technique with full focus. A moment later, his eyes snapped open, excitement flashing. "I found them! They're close! Let's go!" Matthew sighed. Did Jarvis never get tired or hungry? He dragged himself up reluctantly, silently praying that this time the target would actually stay put and wait for them. He genuinely couldn't walk anymore. Meanwhile, Natalie and the others had already taken every valuable thing Fiorella had hidden away. They stepped out of the two-story house, which was now stripped clean. Natalie smiled and hummed happily. She was clearly in a great mood. Fiorella might've had a horrible personality, but she had amazing taste. The jewelry cabinet in the second-floor closet was stuffed with emeralds, like necklaces, bracelets, rings, red emeralds, purple emeralds, yellow emeralds—everything. They weren't as impressive as the auction pieces Cassian had given her before, but the quality was still excellent. And the amount was ridiculous. It was more than enough to feed the emerald bracelet linked to her storage space until the color deepened again. Her bracelet always leveled up along with her storage space. It had started low-grade, but after several upgrades, it had become top-grade. If it weren't for the two new streaks of green added this time, people might even mistake it for a super-rare, even higher-tier emerald bracelet. Seeing how it changed, Natalie couldn't wait to jump into the storage space and test it. She urged, "Let's hurry up. Once we finish collecting everything, I'm going back to test the upgrade." Cassian nodded. "Okay."So the two of them and their three pets split up and searched different houses. Soon, they swept through the whole alley. The team leaders and deputy leaders' houses had nothing good—just piles of filthy socks that smelled so bad even Lucky almost threw up. Natalie clicked her tongue. "Fiorella was so stingy and calculating. She kept all the good stuff for herself. Her people got nothing but empty titles and scraps." Soon, the only building left was a locked three-story house. Judging from how secure it was, it had to be their warehouse. The moment the group blinked inside, they saw mountains of supplies. The little rooms on the first floor were packed with food and barrels of murky drinking water. The main hall held stacks of winter clothes. There were tons of hats, gloves, and scarves. It looked like the past few days of extreme cold had forced them to rush out and gather things, but they hadn't sorted anything yet. Everything was tossed into huge, messy piles. Natalie stared at the clothes and sighed. "Fiorella really had zero big-picture planning." The members of the other two halls clearly didn't have enough warm clothing. They were part of the same gang, but Fiorella hoarded all the heavy winter gear for her own Cloudshade Hall. Those two leaders were loyal to her for absolutely nothing. After commenting, Natalie collected some of the better-quality food and winter clothing, then headed for the second floor. She grabbed some of the winter gear because she could sell it for a high price at the official base in exchange for points. Once they moved there later, points would be the currency used inside the base.
