Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog

Chapter 64 How Do You Butcher a Crocodile?

Olivia felt her heart racing with fear. Thank goodness I didn't rush outside—otherwise, I would've ended up as food for those crocodiles, just like those people ... But then, as she watched the crocodiles chewing away with obvious enjoyment, a wild idea flashed through her mind. Is there a way for me to eat those crocodiles instead of them eating me? Once the thought hit, she sprang into action. When looking into Natalie's dizzy spells earlier, Olivia had picked up the empty knockout drug bottle Braxton and Tiffany had left on the floor. Now it would come in handy. She added a little water to the bottle and shook it hard. Then she dropped in a handful of nails for her nail gun to soak. Natalie had said that even inhaling a tiny bit of the stuff had knocked her out—so soaking the nails for an hour should be enough. An hour later, Olivia saw that the crocodiles had finished eating and were floating lazily in the water. She grabbed her boning knife in one hand and the nail gun in the other, then went to the window on the seventh floor. There were no crocodiles near her building—they were all on the far side, near the other apartment block. After all that bloodshed, the complex was completely quiet. No one dared go out scavenging for food. Taking advantage of the calm, Olivia stood at the window and slowly stretched her arm holding the nail gun outside, trying to lure a crocodile over. Most of the crocs were full and lying around, but there was one still swimming anxiously. This crocodile was thin and weak, and it hadn't gotten much to eat. During the earlier scramble, it had even stuck its right foreleg into a bigger croc's mouth and got it ripped off in a death roll. The poor thing had been totally stunned. By the time it came back to its senses, there were no more human leftovers in the water. The others were stuffed, but it was still hungry ... It paddled around, frustrated, until it suddenly caught the scent of food and quickly swam toward it. With a missing foreleg, it swam a bit slower than usual. When it got close to the window, it saw a human leaning out, arm extended. What's this? Is she feeding me? How nice of her! She knows I'm missing a leg and wants to help me out! She's sending me food! ... Olivia watched as the crocodile drew closer, her heart pounding with nerves. This is my first time hunting a beast like this. I hope the knockout residue on the nails actually works ... Soon, the crocodile reached the window and opened its massive jaws wide. Immediately, Olivia yanked her arm back and fired several nails at it. All those days of target practice had paid off. Every nail hit its mark, driving deep into the crocodile's flesh. When Natalie shopped for a nail gun, she picked the most powerful model with the fastest firing speed. It was so strong that even the tough hide of a crocodile couldn't stop it at close range. With its mouth open, three nails shot right into its gaping jaws. Two more nails struck its body. The pain made it snap its mouth shut, and the last nail went straight into its eye. The unlucky crocodile thrashed wildly in the water, sending up huge splashes.Watching that giant beast go berserk, Olivia's heart skipped a beat in fear. She shot it a few more times, just to be safe. Only after she'd used up every drug-soaked nail did the crocodile finally stop moving. Seeing it go still, Olivia's face lit up with delight. Did it actually work? She glanced all around, making sure there were no other crocs nearby, then reached out with her boning knife to poke at the animal. When it didn't respond, she hurriedly grabbed its body and started hauling it in. The croc was much bigger than her, so she had to grit her teeth and use every bit of strength to drag it through the window. Huh? Why does this crocodile only have three legs? She tossed it onto the hallway landing and hesitated. I've watched my grandma slaughter pigs back in the countryside, but nobody ever taught me how to butcher one of these. How do you even do this? She thought it over but didn't dare waste any time—who knew how long the knockout would last on a beast like this? If it woke up, she'd be in real trouble. Whatever. It's just another animal, like a pig. Cut the throat, bleed it, chop the meat, that's all. She quickly pulled the wire from around her waist, her face tense as she wrapped it tightly around the croc's mouth. She had to do this—if the croc woke up while she was cutting, there was no way she could fight it off. Even after tying it with a wire, she still wasn't satisfied. She wrapped several more layers of tape around its snout, just to be extra safe. Taking a deep breath, Olivia braced her foot on the croc's mouth and brought the knife down hard on its head.As she'd guessed, the pain woke the croc instantly, and it lashed out, trying to bite her. Olivia breathed a sigh of relief. Thank goodness I tied its mouth shut ahead of time.
