Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog
The crocodile snapped its jaws so hard that the wire cut straight into its flesh. Olivia rushed forward, hacking at the same spot over and over with her knife. It was impossible not to be scared. She'd never fought a real beast like this in her life. Even with its mouth tied up, drugged, and missing a leg, it was still a beast. After a few hard blows, blood spilled everywhere and the crocodile finally went still. Olivia nudged it with her foot to check. When she saw it lying there, limp and not breathing, she finally relaxed. Just to be sure, she cut off the crocodile's entire head before letting herself really relax. She unwound the wire and tossed it to the ground along with the nail gun, the boning knife, and the tape. Then she dropped down onto the steps, exhausted.Suddenly, a memory from school popped into her head— Her teacher once told her that the biggest difference between humans and animals is that humans make and use tools. My teacher, you were right! Thank you, teacher! Thank you, tools! If I had to fight this thing hand-to-hand, there's no way I'd have won. Olivia stared at the crocodile at her feet, filled with a deep sense of satisfaction and accomplishment. The last time she'd felt this way was when she got into her favorite medical school. After all those years working in medicine, I never imagined I'd have to fight a crocodile for survival ... The commotion from her fight drew out neighbors from the nearby apartments. They stepped out and saw Olivia going wild, hacking at the crocodile's head with a giant knife.Everyone was stunned at the sight of her killing a crocodile. People kept their distance—no one dared to step in. But once they saw the beast was dead and Olivia was just resting, they all started crowding around her. "Olivia, you're amazing!" "That's a huge crocodile! You can't eat it all by yourself. How about you share some with us?" "Yeah, that's right! When your husband was still alive, we got along great—he always called me his bro ... " "I know you're a doctor, and doctors are always kind and save lives. Please, I'm begging you, help my family out and share some meat!" Olivia stood up and raised her nail gun, staring them down coldly. "Back up. Don't come any closer." Natalie had left the whole complex traumatized, so now nobody dared underestimate a strong woman.Especially one who had just killed a crocodile. It was a crocodile, and Olivia killed it all by herself! Everyone stayed where they were, flattering her but not daring to get any closer. Olivia knew well the saying, "An innocent man gets in trouble when he's holding a treasure." If she tried to take all that crocodile meat home, people would break in for it. She wasn't as tough as Natalie—she couldn't fight off a whole crowd by herself. Wild animals were scary, but humans with intelligence and tools were much more dangerous. She'd rather fight a crocodile than take on a whole crowd of people. Besides, the power was out, so her fridge was useless. If she tried to eat all that crocodile meat by herself, it would go bad before she finished. So, she agreed to share the crocodile meat, but only if people traded her something for it. After all, dry foods lasted longer than fresh meat. She made an offer: for every pound of dry food, she'd trade two pounds of fresh meat. If they had no food, they could use bottled water, candles, propane, or anything else to trade. People rushed to trade with her. They hadn't eaten meat in a long time. Except for a few vegetarians, everyone was tired of crackers, bread, rice, and rough grains. That crocodile was nearly ten feet long and weighed over two hundred pounds, so it gave them more than a hundred pounds of meat. Even the bones and organs were taken. In just a few hours, it was all gone. Still, Olivia made sure to keep some meat for herself.... Natalie was at home hitting the punching bag when she heard someone knock at her door. She went over, opened the door, and was shocked to see Olivia standing there holding a giant hunk of fresh meat. There was even crocodile skin on it. Natalie's eyes went wide. "Is this ... crocodile meat?" Olivia nodded. "Yeah, a bunch of crocs swam into the complex today, so I killed one." Natalie eyed the blood all over her. "You killed it? Who helped you?" Olivia replied, "I killed it myself." Natalie was stunned. What a badass woman! She's a true warrior! She'd expected people to start hunting crocodiles eventually, but she never thought Olivia would be the first.Natalie couldn't help but praise her. "You're pretty tough! You actually killed a crocodile on your own!" Olivia looked a little embarrassed. "It wasn't me being tough. It was the weapon you gave me. I soaked the nails you gave me in that knockout drug bottle and used the nail gun to knock the crocodile out. "That crocodile wasn't very bright, either. It was missing a leg and fell for my trick almost right away."
