Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog

Chapter 525 Trapped

Lillian thought she knew Natalie and Jacob pretty well. So even though the plan she gave Lisa sounded like something to fool idiots, it actually had a good chance of working. She knew Natalie would never let herself be controlled because of Jacob. But Lillian guessed that coward would probably spill the truth about Scarlett when his life was on the line. And Natalie would probably save him because of it, then get trapped by Lisa. Now they just had to wait and see. Either way, it was good news for her and her daughter. She turned over, and a sharp pain shot through her lower belly. She gasped. Just then, fighting broke out in the hallway. Both of them froze. Lillian tried to get up, but Rosalie grabbed her arm. "Someone must've tried to escape and got caught. Don't go looking for trouble, or you'll get dragged into it. I don't want to—" She didn't finish, but Lillian knew exactly what she meant. Remembering what happened last night, she shivered. "Don't worry, I won't go. I'll pretend I didn't hear ... " They curled up on the bed again. In the hallway, Bruno gripped a guard by the collar, punching his head over and over. His eyes were bloodshot, like he'd lost his mind, just throwing punches mechanically. Trained in martial arts, his fists were like hammers. He beat the man to death in no time. But even after the guard stopped breathing, Bruno didn't stop. He just kept punching, again and again. He didn't stop until the guard's face was smashed in, unrecognizable. Then he finally paused, panting. Behind him, Iris stumbled out of the room, her clothes a mess, holding a gun she'd grabbed from one of the guards. She was shaking as she ran into the hallway. She ran straight to the iron door at the end of the hall, frantically trying to open it. No matter how hard she pulled, it wouldn't budge. Then she realized something, lifted the gun, aimed at the lock, and nervously pulled the trigger. Click. Empty. She froze, then fired a few more times. All empty. Her face darkened as she threw the gun to the floor. That damn guard, walking around with his gun like a big shot, and it wasn't even loaded?! Iris took a deep breath and started kicking the door with all her strength. She'd overheard Lillian's plan yesterday when she was talking to Lisa. She knew if she could get this door open and reach the lower floors, she could escape this hellhole while their main force was away. But the door was solid. No matter how hard she kicked, it didn't even budge. The more she kicked, the more she broke down, until she started crying. "This door won't open! Once they come back and see we killed a guard, we're done for!" I wonder how Dad's doing ... Crying, she collapsed to the floor. The labor camp and the livestock pens were both set up on the hotel's top floor. Same level, but they weren't connected. The hotel was huge, split into Area A and Area B. Area A had the guest rooms, while Area B had ballrooms and conference halls. Since the functions were different, the labor camp was in Area A, where the women were locked in rooms, waiting to serve the Grayhound Sect men. The livestock pens were in Area B, where all the human-sheep were thrown into one big hall—cramped together, eating and sleeping in filth. The two areas weren't connected, and to get downstairs, anyone would have to get through two heavy iron doors. The Grayhound Sect added those doors after they took over. It could only be opened with a specific key. Even the guards inside the labor camp didn't have the keys. They had to wait for the shift change. The outside guard would unlock the door, then hand the key to the one going off duty. Basically, only the guards outside had the key. The ones inside couldn't open the door. Lisa made that rule to make sure no one trapped inside could ever overpower the guards, grab a gun and key, and cause chaos. So even though Bruno had killed the two guards on duty, they still didn't have the key. Iris sat on the floor, watching Bruno, her eyes red. Thanks to him, she'd just barely escaped being assaulted. But once those bastards came back ... who knew what would happen next? She saw how wrecked Rosalie was. Yesterday, she'd been so scared she could barely stand. She was known as the good girl in her circle—had never even held a boy's hand. Walking alone at night used to scare her to tears. Being locked in this disgusting place was way worse. She had never felt fear and despair like that before.
