Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog

Chapter 523 Lucky's Cheat Days Gone Wrong

Besides some chocolates and candy, the shelf was empty. Curious, she asked, "What was here? Why is it empty?" Lucky mumbled awkwardly, "I ate it all! Foie gras, caviar, devil's root, deer velvet ... The whole shelf was full of good stuff! At home, I only get a little, but here I could eat till I was stuffed. I even got a nosebleed!" "What?!" Natalie stared at her dog in disbelief. "You ate the whole shelf?!" Is this dog crazy?! Lucky was shocked as well. "Oh crap! I forgot you can understand me now!" She quickly added, "It wasn't that much! Cash and Baron had some too ... I only ate about a third!" Natalie's mouth twitched. A whole six-tier shelf—except for one section of candy and chocolate—cleaned out! Even if they shared it, that was still way too much! And knowing them, there was no way they shared it equally. Most of it probably ended up in Lucky's belly. Natalie bent down and checked her over, worried. Who eats devilroot like candy? No wonder she got a nosebleed! But there was nothing strange on the outside, and she couldn't tell what was going on inside. She grabbed Lucky's ear. "Devilroot and deer velvet—you can't just eat them like treats! Are you trying to kill yourself?" At home, she fed them balanced meals. With medical care so limited now, she worried constantly about them getting sick from something they ate, with no vet to help. She just didn't watch them for a while, and they had gone full buffet raid on their own! Natalie made up her mind right away. "The pork knuckles are postponed. You're already over-nourished, more could hurt you." Lucky immediately whined in protest, looking pitiful. Cassian chuckled and tried to calm her down. "Natalie just means we'll delay it for a few days, not cancel it. Just take it easy for now." Even Hottie didn't back her, so Lucky reluctantly nodded. After leaving the grain depot, the two humans and the dog went next door to the freezer and took some frozen goods. Then they started on the first floor, going room by room, taking anything useful—generators, fuel, all kinds of stuff. Meanwhile, in one of the rooms at the labor camp. Lillian sat on the bed, trembling, holding Rosalie tightly in her arms. Her body was covered in bruises, and the clean clothes she'd put on yesterday were now torn and lying on the floor. Rosalie was in even worse shape. On top of the bruises, her skin was covered in infected sores. Her eyes were blank as a tear rolled down her cheek. "Mom, I don't want to live anymore." Lillian held her daughter tighter. "Rosalie, don't talk like that. As long as you're alive, there's hope." Rosalie stared at the ceiling. "Hope? Where?" Lillian cried silently, saying nothing. Rosalie licked her cracked lips. "There's no hope for me, only more despair."Lillian quickly shook her head. "No! As long as you're alive, anything is possible. Believe me!" Rosalie's face stayed blank. "You say that because you just got here." Her eyes were dull. "After a while, you won't think that way." Lillian frowned, trying to comfort her. "If that's true, what about all the prostitutes and escorts out there? They've always existed. They're still living! "Rosalie, let's just treat it like a job we have to do. Endure it for now. When we get a chance, we can start over." Rosalie laughed coldly. "Those women can go out shopping. Can you? "If they get abused, they can quit. Can you? "They have laws to protect them; they won't die at a client's hands. What about you?" One question after another left Lillian speechless. After a while, she finally said, "This is how things are. Stop saying such hopeless things!" But Rosalie ignored her. She suddenly got up and threw herself at the wall. Lillian was startled and grabbed her. "Rosalie! Calm down! As long as we're alive, there's still a chance!" Rosalie hadn't eaten properly in a long time, but Lillian had managed to get a full meal at Lisa's place the night before, so she was much stronger at the moment. Still, even though Rosalie was weaker, she was determined. She kept struggling to hit her head against the wall. After a while, Lillian was getting tired. Seeing her daughter wouldn't give up, she said something in a panic.
