Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog

Chapter 496 He Dies, I Die

Joe gritted his teeth and repeated, "He dies! I die!" Lisa's eyes went wide with fury. She knew her son. When he had that expression on his face, he'd made up his mind. He absolutely meant what he said. She didn't dare to make any rash moves. But she also couldn't let Bruno go. Whitney was already dead. Bruno would never let this go. Letting him leave would be like planting a ticking time bomb for herself. But with Joe acting like this, she really had no way to deal with him right now. So she had to compromise. "I won't kill him. But I can't let him go either. He can serve his sentence in the labor camp—special service unit." She figured she'd throw him in there to break him down first. Once Joe calmed down, there'd be plenty of opportunities to get rid of this man. Lisa looked at her son and emphasized, "That's the only option! If you still don't agree, then go die with him! I'll pretend I never had such an ungrateful son!" Joe didn't really understand what happened in those places. He only knew that women who went in there got hurt and ended up miserable. But the men who went in always came out grinning. Bruno was a man, so there probably wouldn't be any problems. Joe figured his mother just wanted to keep him locked up with the gang. Since she wasn't sending him to the livestock pens, she must not be planning to kill him anymore. He breathed a sigh of relief. "Okay." Being locked up for a while was better than losing his life. He could figure out a way to rescue him later. Bruno wasn't listening to any of this at all. He just held Whitney, lying beside her with vacant eyes, lost in thought. Joe walked over to him and took off the silver bracelet from his wrist. "This was Whitney's when she was little. She wore it all the time." He rubbed it hard, then held it out. "Maybe it should belong to you." Bruno was Whitney's true best friend. The devastated Bruno finally reacted. He looked at the bracelet in Joe's hand. He reached out and accepted it, studying it carefully in his palm. Joe took the opportunity to remove the lollipop-shaped hair clip pinned to Whitney's collar. The bracelet should go back to Bruno, but he also wanted to keep something to remember Whitney by. Looking at it, he could remember that night when Whitney smiled as she wore it in her hair. Joe clutched the hair clip tightly in his hand, tears streaming down his face. Whitney was gone now, and he felt utterly alone. Lisa waved to the men standing around Bruno. Someone immediately struck him hard, knocking Bruno out while he was lost in thought holding the bracelet. Joe jumped in fright, frowning as he turned to look at his mother. Lisa gave the order, "Take him to the labor camp!" "Yes, Ms. Eland!" Joe looked at Whitney's body on the ground and asked, "Where will Whitney go?" Where else could she go? The dead captives in the gang were usually sent straight to the kitchen for processing. There was basically no livestock meat left anywhere in the world now. For meat consumption, the gang relied almost entirely on the reserves in the livestock pens. The small amount of animal meat they had was incredibly precious and listed as the leader's private stash. Lucky, that greedy dog, had only eaten a few of the most precious items, like foie gras and caviar, and hadn't devoured all the pork, lamb, and beef. Otherwise, Lisa really would have had to kill all three of those thieves, or else she wouldn't have any edible meat left. Deep down, Lisa found eating human flesh disgusting, so the meat from the livestock pens was all for her subordinates to eat. As the gang leader, she ate the frozen meat they'd confiscated earlier with her child. Joe naturally knew Whitney's usual fate. So he said firmly, "I want to find a place to bury Whitney!" He couldn't accept the beautiful, kind Whitney being butchered and eaten by these rough thugs in the gang. Lisa looked at him for a while and compromised, "Fine." The livestock pens had plenty of reserves anyway. They weren't short one person. She was already dead. Her son could handle it however he wanted. So she assigned two people to help Joe dig a hole near the hotel to bury Whitney. As the two worked, Joe kept reminding them, "Make it deeper." He was afraid if it was too shallow, other survivors might dig her up. He even specifically chose a spot where he could see it from his bedroom window. ... The next morning, at Greenhaven Mountain, Roderick arrived at Villa 1 early. Before long, Harold, Olivia, and Ghania also came knocking. "How's the situation? Haven't Lucky and the others come back yet?"Natalie handed them the note she'd received last night. It read, "The Grayhound Sect will be paying you a visit soon! We have your missing family members. Open the gates and surrender without a fight, and we won't kill you." "We have your family members ... " Olivia read it aloud, growing nervous. "Lucky and the others were captured by this gang called the Grayhound Sect!"
