Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog

Chapter 492 A Head

Lisa knew Bruno was an elite bodyguard, his abilities and reactions far beyond normal men. That was why she ordered her crew to beat him down while he was stuck at gunpoint, then bound him tight with rope so he couldn't snatch a weapon if he tried. After taking the two from the Jensens, the gang marched them straight back to the Grayhound Sect. Lisa had deliberately kept Joe out of this job. Back in her own territory, she dropped into the leader's chair up front, glaring down at the prisoners, tied up like livestock. Whitney was still in her sleepwear, while Bruno's face was battered and swollen from the earlier assault. Both looked completely spent, guarded by two men each, holding old rifles. Whitney shot her a fierce look and snapped, "You fraud!" On the ride back, people kept calling Lisa "Ms. Eland," so Whitney had already pieced it together. This woman wasn't some helpless widow; she was the head of a gang. She had scoped out Whitney's home on purpose, tested things out, and then brought her people to loot the place. She cursed herself for being blind enough to welcome a wolf into her home! But Lisa showed no embarrassment at being revealed. She just sneered and answered, "Ms. Jensen, you sure have the guts to call me a fraud?" Whitney didn't back down. "Why wouldn't I? I've got nothing to hide! I've never stolen or lied!" Lisa's eyes narrowed, holding her gaze for a beat, then tossed a backpack at her feet. "You're no liar? Then explain this." The bag wasn't zipped, so when Lisa flung it, the contents spilled and rolled right to Whitney.Whitney looked down and instantly shrieked, "Ah!" Bruno recoiled too, horrified by the blood-soaked human head with wide, lifeless eyes that had rolled out. Yes, Lisa had dumped out none other than Godfrey's severed head. Whitney had studied opera overseas, her voice strong enough to fill a theater without a microphone. So now, her scream rang through the entire hall. Lisa scowled, irritated by the racket. She quickly ordered the guards at Whitney's back to shut her up; if Joe heard, it'd be trouble. That kid might act obedient, but she was hard-headed. If upset, she'd go on a hunger strike and could really starve herself. Once Whitney's mouth was clamped tight, the room finally quieted. Lisa exhaled and muttered, "Really? Never seen a head before? It's only a head. What's the fuss?" Only a head? Seriously? Whitney glared at her, wanting to retort, but the guard's hand blocked her words. She twisted to break free and caught the foul stench from his palm. She couldn't tell if it was sweat or dirty feet, but it reeked. Her stomach flipped, and she gagged hard. The guard jumped, releasing her and backing off quickly. Then, worried Lisa would be angry, he darted a nervous look her way. Lisa waved him off, signaling to stay back, then leaned into her chair to watch Whitney retch it out. Bruno was frantic but helpless. "Whitney, are you alright? What's wrong?" Whitney caught her breath, then shook her head. "I'm fine." She shot a glare at the guard and said, "His hand stank so bad it made me vomit. Who knows if he scratched his feet or what." The guard snapped, "Shut it, brat! Don't pin your nerves on me!" If she was scared, just admit it! Why drag him down? Whitney ignored him and carefully inched back from the bloody head on the ground. She asked, "Seriously, what's with the head? Was that really needed?" Lisa gave a cold laugh. "That was our deputy leader. You're the reason he's dead!" Whitney frowned. "What's that got to do with me? I don't even know him! Never laid eyes on him!" Lisa fixed her gaze on Whitney and Bruno, saying slowly, "Didn't you both tell me Villa 1 only had two people and no weapons?" Whitney froze, trading a look with Bruno. Back when Lisa stayed over, she grilled them with questions. Whitney had told the truth to most, except that one, because Bruno got suspicious, so she had lied. But obviously, they weren't going to admit it now. Whitney said, "I don't know what you're on about. What's Villa 1 got to do with this?" Lisa pointed at the head. "That 'no weapons, only two people' Villa 1 of yours? It slaughtered over two hundred of our men. And our deputy leader."
