Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog

Chapter 403 Rosalie Came Back

Seeing how unfriendly she was, Wilona felt a little embarrassed. She said, "Don't misunderstand me. I'm not a bad person. Actually, you might've seen me before. I was in this one show ... " Before she could finish, Ghania interrupted her. "We don't know who you are, and honestly, it doesn't matter. Things are strange enough already. Please don't keep peeking into our yard. It makes people feel unsafe." She paused and added, "And it's also very rude." Wilona bit her lip. "Ma'am, you've got the wrong idea ... " She looked helpless, almost on the verge of tears, and turned toward the only man nearby. Harold noticed her hopeful eyes. He looked up, puzzled. And he said, "Sorry, we don't have any extra food." Wilona just froze. What? Did he just treat me like a beggar?! She wanted to explain, but the three of them looked even more cautious, so she gave up. Clearing her throat, she turned around and walked back to her own yard, waiting for Frederick to bring back some food. Meanwhile, the Hillside Villa District was getting busier. People whose homes had collapsed were trying to find new places to live. Now and then, you could hear arguments breaking out over who got which house. No one paid attention to the intense heat, which had lasted for over two years, was slowly starting to ease. The long-dry air was getting a little damp. A thin fog began to appear—barely seen at first, but quietly spreading everywhere. Outside the Mallin Villa, Jacob sat on the ground and noticed that he wasn't sweating as much. He looked around in surprise and asked Lillian, "Hey, don't you think it feels cooler now?" Lillian glanced at him but didn't say a word. Seeing her act so cold, Jacob let out a few deep sighs. Forget it! If I tried talking to her again, I'd be a total fool! Right then, someone came running through the light fog. "Mom! I'm back!" Jacob's face brightened a little when he heard that familiar voice. Rosalie was back. Let's see if that wicked woman still dared to act up now that their daughter was here! Rosalie had always been closest to him. She would never let that wicked woman treat him like this. Jacob quickly straightened up and stretched his neck to get a better look. Sure enough, it was Rosalie. But behind her, another figure followed. The fog wrapped around them, making it hard to see clearly. That's strange. It hasn't rained for over two years, so where's all this fog coming from? He thought about it for a moment, but didn't think too much. He guessed the person following Rosalie was probably his mother. He knew that no matter how cruel Natalie was, she would never hurt her elders. Judging by how his mother walked, each step firm and strong, it was clear she wasn't hurt at all. While he was still thinking about it, Rosalie had already reached them."Mom, I brought the person, but ... Dad?!" Her voice suddenly became super high, startling Jacob. Jacob frowned and said, "Why are you yelling? Haven't you seen your dad before?" Rosalie looked a little guilty. "No, it's just ... Dad, how are you awake?" Jacob stared at her, confused. "Why wouldn't I be awake? I'm not that sick! You think I'd just stay asleep forever?" While talking, he glanced behind her. "Where's your grandma ... " But before he could finish, someone came walking toward them. It was a tall man with broad shoulders and muscular. Jacob frowned. That couldn't be his mother. The man walked straight up to Lillian and greeted her, "Lillian, how have you been?" Jacob finally saw his face clearly and gasped, "Derek?!" The man turned toward him. Standing over six feet tall, he looked down at Jacob sitting on the ground, giving off a serious, intimidating presence. "It's been a while, Mr. Ashford," the man said calmly. Jacob narrowed his eyes. "Derek, why are you here?" Derek's full name was Derek Daven. He used to be Jacob's driver and also his most trusted person. Jacob used to trust him with all kinds of shady or secret stuff. That included taking care of his mistress, Lillian, delivering things to her and Rosalie, and all those little secrets he couldn't let Scarlett find out about. Derek took care of everything for him. Later, after the heavy storm hit, Jacob had Derek urgently move a lot of supplies. But after that, they lost contact. So why was Derek suddenly here now? And why did he greet Lillian first instead of me? Even worse, he called her by her first name! Jacob's face darkened. Derek didn't answer his question. He just stared at Jacob with a knowing look, an almost challenging expression. The way Derek looked at him made Jacob really uneasy, so he quickly called out, "Rosalie, help me stand up." Rosalie glanced at Lillian first, saw that she didn't say anything, then looked at Derek. After hesitating, she went over to Jacob and helped him up with some effort. As Jacob leaned on her for support, he asked, "Why did you come back with Derek? Where's your grandma?"
