Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog
Cassian looked innocent. "I thought you liked living in those shoebox apartments." Natalie was lost for words. Well, that was actually a pretty good way to describe them! She asked, "So, where's your land then?" Earlier that day, Natalie had noticed some empty fields around the base. Still, she hadn't expected any of it to belong to Cassian. Cassian said, "Not sure yet. The base only finished the first phase of construction. After they finish the second phase, they'll give me a piece of land." Natalie nodded. "So, you don't know exactly where it is, but it's still inside the base, right?" Cassian nodded. "Yeah, it's inside the base. It's protected by the base, but not under their control." Not under their control? Natalie's eyes widened. "Hold on, so you basically got your own area inside an official base?" Cassian grinned. "Something like that." Wow ... that was awesome. Natalie pressed her lips together. "You sure have some power." Cassian noticed her look and raised an eyebrow. "You don't like it?" Natalie shook her head. "It's not that. It just feels like you've kind of above me." Cassian laughed. This girl sure was competitive. He smiled at her. "Oh, did I? I don't remember being on top of you."Natalie was speechless. "Ugh, you're such a pervert! Stop saying dirty jokes!" Cassian laughed again and pulled her close. "Relax! I'm the one getting losing to you these days. I can hardly keep up with you." Natalie hugged him back. "It's not like I'm trying to beat you. I just feel a bit emotional, that's all." Cassian asked, "Emotional about what?" Natalie's voice was soft and low. "You must've had a really good life in previous life." Even though he hadn't met her back then, Cassian had done just fine. He had weapons, supplies, land, and protection from the official base. He didn't need her to survive. He could've done just fine without her. Cassian understood what she meant and said gently, "I don't really know how good my previous life was, but before I met you this time, it was sucked." Natalie blinked. "Huh? How could it suck?" Before meeting her, Cassian had been living safely and comfortably in Greenhaven Mountain. Wasn't that way better than the messy city life? Cassian gently stroked her hair. "Just having food and a place to stay doesn't make you happy. What I needed, what I missing wasn't something material." Natalie finally understood what he meant. He'd always been lonely—so lonely it made him sad sometimes. He was trying to tell her that she mattered a lot to him, that she had become a big part of his life. So Natalie wrapped her arms around his waist and laughed softly. "Come on, let's not get all sad. That's not really our style."Cassian laughed too. "It's fine to be a little moody. Your period's coming soon, right?" Natalie was stunned. Oh, no wonder I'd been feeling all emotional lately. "You sure have a good memory!" Cassian grinned. "When life depends on keeping someone happy, you remember these things." Natalie threw a punch at him. Cassian stepped aside. "See? You're already getting grumpy." They joked around for a while before Natalie suddenly remembered what she had to do. She said goodbye to Cassian and went into her storage space. Earlier, she had collected a lot of emeralds, but still didn't know how much her storage space had upgraded since then. She needed to test it out and found its limits. That way, if danger came again, she'd know exactly how long she could stay hidden. Meanwhile, after Olivia and the others borrowed a truck, they started moving their stuff. When the neighbors saw them going back and forth, they finally realized they should hurry and find a safer place to live. Wilona was the first one to figure it out. She had been watching Harold and Olivia for a while. After failing to get any info from Frederick, she walked down the main road to see where they were taking all those chickens and rabbits. That's when she noticed that they were moving to a new house. She ran back to tell Frederick and pulled him along to look for a place too. Thanks to her quick thinking, they managed to grab the other house that Harold and Olivia had originally been eyeing. Olivia and Harold saw Frederick and Wilona take the house, but didn't say anything. Natalie was already staying with Cassian, so they only needed one house anyway. It didn't matter who took the other one. Frederick's stomach growled for a long time before he finally gave up and went back to the old place to get something to eat. Wilona stood in the yard of their new house, keeping watch. She saw Harold and Olivia busy working next door and called out, "Hi there! Guess we're neighbors now!" Her tone was light and a bit playful. But Harold and Olivia didn't respond. They just kept unloading things from the truck. Wilona didn't get upset. She smiled again and asked, "Looks like you've got a lot of chickens and rabbits?" When Ghania, who was quietly organizing supplies in the corner, heard that, she quickly warned, "Hey! Don't be too nosy. Curiosity can get you in trouble."
