Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog

Chapter 367 I'll Live Wherever I Want

The group chatted and laughed for a while before Natalie suddenly remembered something and turned to Cassian. "Wait, that whole mess happened so fast, I nearly forgot what we were actually here for." Cassian immediately straightened up. "What is it?" Natalie looked serious. "Earlier, we heard two gunshots in the house. Is there anyone else in Hillside Villa District who owns a gun?" She glanced at the shotgun on Cassian's back. "Or was that you?" It wasn't just the villa district's wealthy families who got jumpy at the sound of gunshots—even Natalie, who had a gun herself, was always on alert. After all, it was one thing to have enemies, and another to have enemies with firearms. Noticing everyone at the table looking at him, Cassian put down his utensils and explained. "Don't worry, that was me. I took care of a couple of troublemakers." Natalie looked him over carefully. "Are you okay?" Cassian replied, "I'm fine. They barely had any weapons." Only then did Natalie relax. "Good. That's all that matters." She continued, "So what trouble did they cause?" Cassian looked at Natalie and hesitated, deciding not to tell her about how Jacob made a fool of himself. Just hearing that nonsense from Jacob was enough to make him sick. If Natalie found out, she'd feel even worse. With the way Jacob acted today, if he weren't Natalie's biological father, Cassian would have liked to string up the whole family and leave them to dry. Natalie saw Cassian space out and waved a hand in front of his face. "Why'd you go quiet?" Cassian snapped back. "It wasn't a big deal. Some people didn't like new residents moving in and wanted to cause trouble, so I just made an example out of them." Olivia and the others fell silent. They really had barged into someone else's territory. It was normal for some people to object. But none of them expected things to get so bad—someone nearly got killed the moment they moved in. Natalie, who'd survived over six years in the apocalypse saw things differently. "I'll live wherever I want—it's not like I'm staying in their house! It's the apocalypse, and they still want a monopoly? They've just been on top for too long and want to control everything. Cassian did the right thing. We'll keep doing this. If anyone objects, we deal with them!" She spoke with so much conviction and righteousness that everyone burst out laughing. You're absolutely right! In the apocalypse, even if we moved into the Presidential Residence, nobody could say anything! Cassian smiled and patted Natalie's head. "You live wherever you want." After thinking for a second, he added, "Of the residents in Hillside Villa District, I know the Mervyns have guns. Others don't have them publicly, but who knows what people are hiding in private." Natalie nodded. "Let's all be careful and stay alert." The five of them went back to eating in good spirits. As she reached for a piece of roasted chicken, Ghania suddenly remembered something."Nat, is Cash still outside?" Natalie remembered too. "Yeah, he's still out there." Harold smacked the table. "We'd better not let someone catch and cook him! With the way he looks now, you don't even have to pluck his feathers ..." Olivia got worried. "Cash might be a playboy, but he doesn't deserve to die!" Natalie said, "Don't worry, he's clever. He'll be fine." Despite her words, she got up and went to the door. But when she opened it, the yard was empty. Aside from Harold's van, there was nothing there. Natalie stepped out and called, "Cash," but there was no response. She frowned and circled around to the backyard. Still no sign of that playboy rooster. "Cash, get out here! Don't you want to come home?" The yard was dead silent. Natalie finally started to worry—maybe that playboy rooster really did get caught and turned into soup. Everyone inside heard her calling and came outside too. Cassian asked, "Nattie, what's wrong? You can't find Cash?" Natalie frowned. "Yeah, he's missing." Cassian looked around. "Maybe he went home by himself?" "Could be." Natalie turned and headed next door. Cassian followed her back home. The two of them searched both front and back yards, then opened the villa door. The moment the door opened, Lucky bolted out and jumped on Natalie, begging for attention. Baron bounced along behind, welcoming them back. Natalie glanced around, but there was no sign of Cash. "Lucky, did Cash come home?" Lucky's wagging tail instantly stopped, and she looked away, guilty. Natalie noticed and raised an eyebrow. "What's that look for?" Lucky quickly started wagging her tail again, stretching her neck out, acting all innocent. Natalie gave her a playful slap. "Don't play dumb. I can read you like a book, you silly dog. Tell me, where's Cash?"
